A tweet from years ago that will be lodged in my head/heart forever just said "If you're so smart why aren't you kind?" Mutualism is the best long game and the kindest at all spans, checkmate jerks
Update on the Moda Center process: I was recently asked to join a small group of councilors to stay close to the talks as the admin enters negotiation. It was conveyed to me that a condition of being in this group would be a commitment to honor an NDA between the city and the team. I refused. π§΅
Hope someone can ask Berman if the league thinks it is a good look to be co-opting public parks like they did here and in Boston. #nwsltocbus #crew96 #nwsl
Absolutely!
Columbo knew...
From the episode 'Old Fashioned Murder', series 6, episode 2, 1968.
The same canoe, upside down (it's gonna rain tonight). It's a tired, dusty green with a square patch in the middle of over side with a checkerboard pattern of glue reside from an old, mediocre patch on a crack
The outside isn't bad, just one old crack to patch and then some filler and a shiny new paint job
You are absolutely correct, I was lazily using carpentry shorthand for what I imagine is Swietenia macrophylla, but won't be sure until I sand a clean surface into it
I'm sure we all know it, but be sure to wear a respirator any time you're messing with dried fiberglass, you really don't want glass in your lungs
I will say I was misled as a buyer; the guy was certain the ribs, below the sun-greyed resin and fiberglass, were cherry, but they're definitely mahogany. Nothing against mahogany, a noble tree and lumber both, but your boy loves the domestic hardwoods of the eastern North American forests
lol obviously veneer, though venert is funny
The goal is to have this shipshape before they close Smith and Bybee lakes to boats, which should be doable but no promises
The floor of the canoe with the top layer of fiberglass fabric roughly a third gone, a third separated but still attached, and a third still down. A palette knife, pair of gloves, and sanding block are on the floor of the canoe
Now ripping up the floor fiberglass, which is easily (in relative terms) don't thanks to the same uv damage that caused the ugly delamination
The canoe side-on with it's outwale cut into strips between the nails and with each piece rotated from horizontal to vertical awaiting its removal via a good pry
Started with ripping the old gunwales off. They were punky enough that I was getting rid of them regardless, but whoever "overhauled" this in 1981 ringnailed the inwale and outwale together from the outside, bad moisture practice and also a fastener requiring destruction for disassembly
Yellow 1984, blue 1983, faded pink 1982, and very faded yellow(?) 1981 Grand Teton National Park permits stick to the green bow of a canoe
Check out these sweet permits from Grand Teton National Park in the early 80s
It is both a bullshit imitation of the real thing if you're a purist and a way to get wood into ab otherwise glass and plastic boat if you aren't.
This style was made by Merrimack, Stowe, Navarro, and maybe some others companies and surely some homebuilders. The ribs are 1/16" thick venert but do impart some real structural rigidity.
The thin, wide wood ribs of a canoe, with half ribs in between them on the canoe bottom and dark fiberglass showing between them up the sides
I spent a couple of years restoring wood and canvas canoes in my 20s, so I've got a decent clue here, but this is a fiberglass rug from the late 70s or early 80s
I'm trying not to do things on instagram, so I'm going to post about it in this thread.
I bought an old canoe for $75 and am getting it back into fighting trim for this summer.
We'd find out very quickly whose heart was in it if we fought wars with everyone's siblings, kids, and grandkids rather than the anonymous, largely poor volunteers hawks rely on...
I have long thought we should reinstate the draft for that precise reason
A happy 4/20 to my dogs, who just got to split a hot dog from the weed store across the street and will now be chasing that particular high for years
I got some cheap decent headphones recently and have been listening to albums on dog walks and it sets some funny moods. Walking down an overgrown alley, bearing down on a wild hare that hadn't seen us while Sunn O))) clangs really feels like being the villain in a movie in a fun way
this reminds me, i don't think SCOTUS should be allowed to choose their own clerks. standardize the hiring schedule, put the applications in a pool, blind reads (perhaps by a panel of former clerks) and random assignments.
this is fucking nuts:
This essay is good, actually, and this skeet is not at all what it's about. Hanif done dirty by whoever writes these posts, the replies are all arguing with something the essay does not argue at all this shit makes me fucking insane.
Girl just worry about the transportation package, city councilors canβt even ask their colleagues to sponsor a bill without breaking quorum because of this extremely bad policy π
The Dems that voted to give Trump surveillance state powers were Golden, Gottheimer, Perez, and Suozzi, so if any of them is your rep they should catch some hell for it.
