“Shot dead” is passive. “murdered” names the actor. Words matter, especially when the state is pulling the trigger.

Cold blooded murder. Just like Renee Good, Alex Pretti was gunned down for no reason. In fact, he was trying to help the woman who was pepper sprayed and thrown to the ground.
