Today's Sociology — Hey Students, Considering Majoring in Sociology?

Does anyone else think the person who started this site www.ihatesociology.com/todays-socio... obviously loves #sociology? Extensively well argued, some poignant critiques we should all be considering, I think they obviously (not so) secretly love sociology to have put in so much effort!

Losing Everything to Find Myself What addiction taught me about non-materialism, control, and acceptance

Even if I could go back in time, I don't think I'd change a thing! Grateful to be sober today :) #sobersky #recovery #odaat medium.com/invisible-il...

It's definitely fixed, thank you for creating/curating this feed! Tangential thought: while, for society's sake, I often wish everyone would leave Facebook/X and come here, feeds like #sociology would be overrun! I can actually scan every post from a day in 5-10 mins and all/most posts seem sincere.

The #sociology feed (my favorite) by @larsjohannessen.bsky.social is overrun by bot posts from @socpaperbot.bsky.social lately. Much worse last few weeks! Someone please fix this! I'm not able to pm either the bot or Lars... The bot is reposting the same stuff over and over, real posts get buried!

Almost four years. I'll post a bio now, thanks for the advice! Still figuring out BlueSky :)

I hadn't thought of this, that's a great idea! I actually do have access at A&M as an alumnus, but only if I go on campus to the library itself, which is what I'll probably start doing periodically to grab the paywalled articles I want for my independent research.

Thank you! I'll check out all of these!

Thank you, I read a book by Thich Nhat Hanh a while back and got a lot out of it. I'll check it out, thanks for the recommendation! And, the more prayers the better, please do! I'm 3 and a half years sober, so not struggling in that way atm, but like everyone, I have my daily struggles.

Are there any good feeds for #addiction or #recovery here? I'm not seeing any with more than just a few followers....

The American Sociological Association is collapsing and its organization is a perpetual stagnation machine I was elected to improve ASA and I failed.

" ....the association further committing to its reliance on paywalled journal publishing and the profit-maximizing contract with Sage, and opposing efforts to open access to research for the public.: from familyinequality.wordpress.com/2021/03/28/t....

Does anyone else interested in reading sociology think it's ironic that the ASA still paywalls articles, while so many other journals have become completely open access? Asking for a friend...lol
