Or… submitted too early, realized mistake, and the resubmitted to late and missed the 1st April publication date.

Wait what? Is it really so simple?

What stands out to me is the genuine admission of wrongdoing — it’s refreshing. I just hope it leads to a lesson learned rather than too many scars.

Bloody hell! It’s the first time I feel envy for imaging vs ephys. Well done Simon and team!

Dorsal Raphe Revisited: A Systems Neuroscience Lens on Psychedelic Drug Action - Alex C. Kwan, 2026 Psychedelics rose to prominence in the 1960s, around the same time when neurobiologists identified the midbrain raphe as the brain’s primary source of serotonin...

For those interested in the history of psychedelic research…

I wrote a narrative piece describing studies of psychedelic effects on serotonergic neurons in the dorsal raphe, from late 1960s to 1980s:

Joao, a resource on funding sources to cover housing etc. for sabbaticals / couple of months hosting would be a great addition. I couldn’t find any.

Fair point. Plus it all depends on the incentive of the user. And we all know how very mindful humans are.

Or passed through Claude:

With careful review, AI helps you say what you mean in fewer, better words. Brevity becomes a craft tool, not a casualty.

While I agree to some degree, to me sharpening and condensing a text to transmit what I mean more efficiently is a great use of some models. With careful checks of course.

Canvas: 5-HT receptor antibodies in mouse
Does anyone know specific antibodies for 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b receptors shown to work for immunohistochemistry? What we tries were all crap.
Any alternatives, e.g. genetically encoded fluorescent fusion proteins?

Fair point about timescales!
Re cell types: I would have thought for onset / behaviour change VGlut(2?) to VTA (shortcut to motivation) or GABAergoc projection to hipp. affecting theta synchronisation (shortcut exploration). Excited to see the future results.

Cool stuff!
Any idea about MS cell types responsible for this.
Plus I have a slight issue with framing, as I don’t think anyone with even basic knowledge of neuroscience supports dualism, so yes, brain activity should precede behaviour.

1/8. New preprint! ✨

How spontaneous is spontaneous behavior? 🧠🐭

We found that whole-brain fUSi signals predicted spontaneous behavioral transitions seconds in advance. Inhibiting one node of this transition-prone state, the medial septum, facilitated switching!

A short story from Leó Szilárd, a Hungarian physicist, 1948.

Want to kill science? Fund scientists—then force them out of the lab to write grants, review grants, and sit on panels. Tie funding to flashy papers, and everyone will chase fads. Done.

We seek a motivated candidate with a background in neuroscience or computational sciences, and experience in either experimental in vivo work or modelling (Python, neural networks).

This @centuri-ls.bsky.social project combines computational modelling (spiking and normative models) with in vivo electrophysiology, imaging, behaviour, and optogenetics to study how serotonin and noradrenaline shape prediction error signalling during sensory-motor mismatch.

Projection-specific integration of convergent thalamic and retrosplenial signals in the presubicular head direction cortex Nonlinear dendritic integration in single presubicular neurons provides a mechanism for combining vestibular-based head-direction signals and visual landmark signals to anchor the brain’s internal com...

Coincidence of thalamic HD signal and retrosplenial visual input is detected in the Presubiculum! 🎯 This may be the neuronal basis for landmark anchoring of the HD signal. Pleased to announce the VOR is now available elifesciences.org/articles/92443 Congrats first author Louis Richevaux 🙌

Evolutionary leftovers (serving good but mostly hard wired purpose, brainstem stands out here). But next step in evolution will be (is) all cortex.

Really excited to share this Opinion piece we've been working on with fellow head-direction cell geeks @apeyrache.bsky.social @desdemonafricker.bsky.social and (bsky-less?) Andrea Burgalossi! While head-direction cells pop up in many cortical regions, we think that one of them is quite unique (1/8)
