The painting is of George Washington crossing the Delaware. It is by Emanuel Leutze.

An article from the National Parks Service: Smallpox,
Inoculation, and the Revolutionary War
Boston National Historical Park
During the 1700s, smallpox raged through the American colonies and the Continental Army. Smallpox impacted the Continental Army severely during the Revolutionary War, so much so that George Washington mandated inoculation for all Continental soldiers in 1777. Just fifty-six years earlier, in 1721, Bostonian doctors and clergy introduced the procedure to the American colonies.
Without the vision and determination of these early Bostonians in normalizing inoculation, Washington may not have made the decision to mandate inoculation for the Continental Army. Though it was a controversial action, many historians credit the medical mandate with the colonists' victory in the Revolutionary War and the creation of the United States of America.

Star Trek III invented the technology to deal with this in the 80s. It’s called “flashback but small”. youtu.be/LBXkoGTZBNk?...

Watching Great British Menu, and Tom Kerridge is wearing a Han Solo ESB- like jacket (not exact, but similar styling with pockets).

The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”

Patel’s lawyer’s letter says the original Atlantic story claimed they requested a battering ram because Patel was unresponsive *at FBI HQ.* (The final printed story did not say where he was unresponsive.) Can you imagine the FBI battering down their own office doors to reach a drunken FBI Director?

Amazing that this show aired on commercial TV – not just because of the R-rated violence, drug use & critiques of US intervention in Latin America but also the extreme style choices. The lighting & color in this sequence are expressionist. No house has ever looked like this. youtu.be/xafbjK_Ib8c

#NowWatching Highlander Goddam I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it on original release. The remake can never be as funky, but I hope it's good.

I am indeed familiar with Mann, and there are other crime authors on the block. This was pretty good. Not just a Heat knockoff.

I know it's not the most important thing here but Quentin Tarantino didn't even write the fake Bible verse. He stole it from an old Sonny Chiba movie. And something about that last extra layer of bullshit really adds something to this whole thing, to me
