Closing down the weekend and rounding off my Sunday #Jazz trio is #AntônioCarlosJobim and his 1967 classic "Wave". A perfect way to, ahem, wave goodbye to another week. Hope your forthcoming seven days are filled with all things good. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Nowplaying

The filling in my Sunday #Jazz sandwich comes courtesy of #TheModernJazzQuartet and a self titled release from 1957. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Nowplaying
Some post #Freakzone Sunday #Jazz then. Beginning this week with #BillEvans and his '63 LP "Conversations With Myself". As the title suggests, it's just Bill, his piano and his own overdubs. Quite revolutionary at the time, he went on to record two follow ups. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Nowplaying
Enjoy your spoils Ian! Gilles Peterson has just played the one release I coveted (Ike White) just to rub the salt in. Bah!
Well done, that good to hear! Tbf, my local shop is tiny and there was about 200 in front of me. I've usually done alright online afterwards so will try again Monday night.
Any luck Ian? Three hours of queuing and I left empty handed..knew there was a reason I've never taken part! Ah well...
Eric Gale's guitar on this is, naturally, exemplary. The epitome of underappreciated, his wiki entry reads like AI slop, but it's all true.
Time for #TheIncredibleJimmySmith to wrap things up again. Here he is in '67 demanding "RESPECT". Right, I'm off to get some kip, better get the zeds in before I start queuing with the great unwashed. Urgh. Stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #RSD
Mainly because he didn't stay pure to his jazz roots, #KingCurtis doesn't seem to be as feted as his contemporaries. Total elitist bullshit of course, the man could blow with the best of them. Here he is in '67 with his ace takes on some absolute bangers. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
This was the first KM song I ever heard, driving home after a brutal nightshift at about 6am. It came on the radio just as the sun was rising and I fell for it instantly. It's not all about hairy white men with guitars y'know. When it hits, it hits.

Just noticed I liked my own post there. I stand by it. Wonderful LP. Absolutely zero filler.
Beautiful.
Oof. I went in too hard with those first couple. Time to lighten the mood with #KaceyMusgraves and, for me, her best release so far. Whilst the country of her debut remains, her second contains nods to her subsequent, poppier LP's. Hooky, assured storytelling. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
Whilst the rest of the record fails to live up to that stunner of an opening track, it's a perfectly fine snapshot of the time. Hard rock with nice touches of Harpsichord and some lovely guitar work. Not exactly a lost classic, but well worth a listen.
My previous pick was a comp from Now Again Records which completed a trilogy of psych dirges. Opening the first of those were Ohio rockers #TopDrawer with the brilliant "Son Of A Sinner" which prompted me to buy this, their one and only LP from '69. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
Happy Birthday!
I would have queued earlier but Friday is sacrosanct for records and beer so it necessitates Mrs.O as designated driver. She ain't getting up that early for anyone or thing!
And good luck to you too Ian!
I've never queued before, always mopped up online if there's anything I want..I thought 6 am would be reasonable for my local shop in Stockton but I note folk are talking about getting there for 1 am! She's going to be disappointed isn't she?😂 Ah well, I think I stand a decent chance with my pick.
#Fridayvinyl time! RSD tomorrow, an enterprise I don't usually take part in but my niece "needs" the Taylor 7" so I'll be queuing up in the morning. (There's also a release I'm quite keen to get my hands on tbf)..Anyway here's an RSD LP I bagged online a few years back. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
Come and smile
Don't be shy
Touch my bum
This is life
Ooh.
Thanks for that Paul, I seemed to be at the cinema every week from 80-81 and 45 years later it's all a bit of a muddle... I definitely saw Spider Man The Dragons challenge at the local Odeon so that's where my memories got mixed. How did you find this out, out of interest?
Completing my trio of Sunday #Jazz picks is Steve #Okonski and a recent favourite of mine, his wonderful debut from 2023, the beautiful "Magnolia". Perfect peace to accompany the result for our Magyar brothers and sisters. Have a wonderful week everyone. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #NowPlaying
The middle panel of my Sunday #Jazz triptych features #ArtBlakey with a recent reissue of his 1973 LP "Buhaina" Love the version of "Moanin'" on this. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #NowPlaying #ArtBlakeyandTheJazzMessengers
Some post #Freakzone Sunday #Jazz then, all the more sweeter tonight considering the news from Hungary..Keep on pushing, A change is gonna come. Anyway, firstly it's back to the beginning with #JellyRollMorton and this 1959 comp of early 20th century essentials. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #NowPlaying
Bill Maynard?
My back hurts just looking at it!😂
I love a tele but that jag is goigeous.
Arnie/KirkDouglas roadrunner Western comedy "Cactus Jack" was the supporting feature for The Empire Strikes Back..or was it Raiders? I need this database you speak of.
It may be a different day but I can't not close with #TheIncredibleJimmySmith. Here's our Hammond Hero with a big band comp from the early 70's. Should be back to my regular Friday next week, until then, stay safe stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Thursdayvinyl #Jazz
