Trump just said "Democrats in this chamber have cut off all funding for the Dept of Homeland Security.... They have instituted another Democrat shutdown."
Republicans control the House, the Senate and the White House.

No, these are very serious comments.
ChatGPT has absolutely no goddamn place in graduate education. It steals from other authors, routinely gets major facts wrong, hallucinates sources, and generally makes the prose flat and boring as hell.
And if you shill for it in my mentions, I'll block you.
Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary, briefly addressed the shooting during an unrelated news conference in Brownsville, Texas, and described the incident as “an act of domestic terrorism.”
Like, this is correct, but just not in the way she means it.
They say to go beyond city lights to see the Northern Lights, but this was visible from my deck. Amazing.
“.. Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) on Monday shot down a Democrat-led attempt to force the Trump administration to fully fund the country’s largest anti-hunger program ..”

We strongly condemn @CondéNast’s consolidation plans for Teen Vogue, a move that is clearly designed to blunt the award-winning magazine’s insightful journalism at a time when it is needed the most. More from our statement:
I’d say this is damn good reason for Democrats to hold fast to the shutdown until Republicans agree to protect ACA credits.
What this image shows so plainly is that most American communities are peaceful, calm, and untroubled until the police get there.
The U.S. Defense Department just gave this company $200 million.
"Compare the characters at the end of 'Our Town' to ourselves on January 19, 2025. Is Emily right when she says that the living didn’t know how good they had it?"
I’m rewatching Lost and am sadly just noticing that they all have remarkably well groomed facial hair without razors or mirrors. 🤦♀️
Thank you for the reminder. I’ll be going to Tropes & Trifles, a local romance bookstore.
One of the wilder political things in recent history is that Project 2025 publicly released a 900 page document laying out their plans to roll back 100 years of human progress and then during the campaign Republicans just said "no we're not :)" and then they won and now they're doing it all.
Legit the best thing any Dem has done to date in response to Trump and it happened because he cared more about serving his constituents than public polling about immigration.
Hey, did you know there's an alternative to ChatGPT that makes sense economically and doesn't destroy the environment?
It's called English majors and they will happily fix all of your documents for the low price of health insurance and a living wage.
Northern Minnesota too.
I do that too. That’s how I talk with students about their writing.
I’m an English teacher. Tbh I don’t create process writing to make steps but to ensure student think about their writing along the way, and I check in as they do it. The conversations along the way are the real process. Teaching metacognition and conscious writing choice.
Many years ago, William Kent Krueger came to my book club and said the same thing.
So, as a reader, I feel like it’s a big cheat to have prologues or introductions not start on page 1. I noticed this when I saw my English students trying to tell me what page they were on in their independent reading, and they just waved their hands and said, It’s some letters?!?
Illegal attempts to access IRS data was an article of impeachment against Nixon.
For real, I just finished the book World of Wonders, and if I remember the narwhal chapter correctly, it’s for tasting or sensing prey. Not what I thought it would be.

So as Justice Sotomayor says, “The implication of the Government’s position is that not only noncitizens but also US citizens could be taken off the streets, forced onto planes, and confined to foreign prisons with no opportunity for redress if judicial review is denied unlawfully before removal"
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) has a bill to return tariff authority to Congress. If it were to pass, the purposeless tariffs would end. Speaker Johnson is blocking it. Call your member of Congress, R or D, & urge a discharge petition on the bill, which forces a vote.

Thinking back to college pranks while in choir, substituting chocolate laxatives while baking cookies would be a choice.
