The thing is a lot of rules lite games are fun if your an rpg sicko, but anyone with a brain and finding desiging worth the effort is going to think "dam my rules lite rpg" isnt going to work for newcomers or unsure gms so let me add in some more words and its no longer rules lite. Thats good.

Does anybody else find it wierd theres a 2024 movie called cuckoo starring a trans woman playing a character called gretchen and also a 2024 novel called cuckoo written by a trans woman called gretchen.

I finally got around to watching cuckoo (2024) a movie that is incredibly straight-forward and yet all letterboxd reviews seem to think its either confusing or doesnt explain its plot (???) I loved it.

Yeh i just think my big concern is everyone would see the friction and choose to play a guy to avoid it - something seen as a default anyway.

And it so happens to be the best discworld novel (imo)

Yes, i think this is pretty important design space for rpg worlds, but also there needs to be a specific role/narrative that allows women characters to be flexible/interesting/common (even if say relegated to specific classes) for me to be interested in playing. Friction can be a source of fun.

I *loved* accelerandro by charles stross; soo fucking weird and fun and took itself ao seriously, a nihilistic look at tech optimism of the early 00s.

I mean this is the appeal of vermis and scavenger's reign and many more after all, but i feel in both writing and games we dont hold space for this, or discuss what good or bad versions of this looks like.

Im a big fan of, as I term, the "safari" ttrpg where interaction in the world is a fun possibility but witnessing the weird and magical scenes/creatures/sights ect is just a fun even if just from afar or passes quickly (and i enjoy this in stories too, esp s&s)

"Queen of the fire arch" however kinda sucked, well written but just so boring and uber generic and with little of interest, and just goes on too long. For taking up most of this anthology it really lets it down.

"Two mothers" and "knight rumours" are fucking awesome, must reads. "The song of the nameless phallus" was very fun. "Maybe just us", "never threaten a spider", and "light from a dead star" were kinda generic but interesting enough!

Read Profane alters - a solid 6/10 for s&s anthologies (Which i read a lot off). You can tell this isnt the press's typical genre, and the promise of "weird" s&s specificly promises more than it provides. They seem a normal amount of s&s weird.
