Hosting a forum in 2026 In a world of platform lock-in, self-hosting communities sounds real good.

It’s 2026 and I'm hosting a forum. I also wrote a nice lil' tutorial for setting up Simple Machines Forum so you can do the same without much issue. blog.webb.page/WM-087

You know what's super funny about my life right now as far as my ambitions? All the structures I hoped for status in are crumbling to the ground. So it's kinda like, oh well so much for status. Like I don't even know what it looks like anymore.

Remember when software was descriptive and interfaces were easier to use? Nowadays we have less agency because software creators treat complexity like a deep dark secret that should never be seen.

A modern TV Guide For the longest time, I’ve wanted to have an interactive landing page for NICKEL, more than the spinning 3D coin with our logo near the bottom (that has been...

In this dispatch, the TV Guide interface is live. It took quite some time to architect, please clap.

one thing the web should have evolved by now is a portable non-centralised way to verifiably assert "I am the owner of <email address>" because this is clearly necessary for loads of things and approximately nobody does a good job of implementing it

If you have ever struggled with a server whose bios won't netboot because there's a misconfiguration on the switch, or the Ethernet cable is not coded right for the speed of the server's card (because your vendor silently
"upgraded" you to 25 Gbit because they were out of 10 Gbit cards), and then when it does boot, it is thermally throttled because it's tiny fans happen to be blowing in the one spot where your electrician tied a bundle of electric cables 10 cm thick, and then once you get the thermal throttling problem solved, you find out your version of IPMItool is incompatible with some stupid extension your server vendor defaulted to "on",, then you might understand why Oxide is a good deal.
If you idea of installing a server is "terraform", you're not going to get it.

I have up on receiving my 3DS copy of Mighty Number 9 years ago. Wild how Keiji Inafune went from being highly lauded to despised. Damn.

I, quite easily, migrated from Bluesky to one of Blacksky's PDSes: cryptoanarchy.network.

Rad af.

I used tektite.cc and all it took was ~10 minutes? Less?

The CEO of Bluesky WANTS you to go elsewhere so...do it. It's so easy.
