I’ve decided to not continue with rugby. My mind is definitely not in the right place to take on a commitment like that. My body is definitely not in the right place. The past three weeks have taught me I need to move my body A LOT more. It may not have ended in a sport but it did inspire me.

Well it was my second practice overall last night. I’m beginning to have reservations about continuing. They say there is room for all levels but I feel like I’m just taking up space and wasting time.

I bought my first pair of cleats. Tonight is my first practice after a week off. I’m starting to get really nervous again. I missed the week where rookies met the vets. #couchtorugby #rugby

I noticed I didn’t thread properly on my first story with my experience joining a rugby club. I’ll remember to do that going forward.

After standing awkwardly for a while I started slowly talking to people and everyone was so friendly and receptive. I realized after talking to others just how many of us were nervous for this new adventure. The next step was to go to Rugby 101 class to learn about the sport.

I had a drink but I still could not bring myself to walk up to someone and strike up a conversation. Do you know what kind of confidence that takes?! But that is why I was there. To get out of my comfort zone and to gain confidence. There were a lot of nervous faces which made me feel not alone.

It wasn’t long before someone from the org walked up to me and introduced himself. I immediately felt at ease because he was so nice. He was busy greeting others as well but after my interaction I decided to grab a drink to help calm my nerves.

I told myself I drove all the way to the city, paid for parking, now was not the time to chicken out. I went into the bar. I ran to the bathroom first because I was too nervous to walk into the Meet & Greet. After some deep breaths I made my way over. I stood at the info table looking lost.

The first event I attended was a Meet & Greet for rookies to meet each other and existing rugby players. It was held at a bar and I was excited to attend but I almost turned around the closer I got to the door. I was by myself. No buffer. Just me and a bunch of new people.
