Texas bill would make identifying as transgender a felony punishable by jail The bill, while unlikely to pass, highlights the increasing extremism of legislation targeting trans people, especially in Texas, in recent years.

Reprehensible!

Beware he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart, he dreams himself your master.

I suggest everyone go read "The Old Issue" by Kipling.

That is what we have bought.

Karoline Leavitt needs to put her money where her mouth is. If she's going to tell people "Jesus didn't have electricity" while living her silk-stocking lifestyle, she and hers are nothing but hypocrites.

Rome never looks where she treads.
Always her heavy hooves fall
On our bellies, our hearts, and our heads.
And Rome never hears when we squall.
Her sentries pass on, and that's all.
And we gather behind them in hordes
And plot to reconquer the wall
With only our tongues for our swords.

A very smart colleague just pointed out the grim truth that the U.S. leaving the WHO may ultimately be a win for the rest of the world. Why? Because without a vote, “the US can't block WHO actions like vaccine programs, disease surveillance, contraception, etc”. Man, that is daaaark, but accurate.

New on my blog: Several states have set up hotlines or email addresses where people can report speech they don't like. At least one contacts the people reported and urges them to undergo "training."

I actually like having a mixture of opinion available - however, in the last few days, a lot of people have stepped over the line of what I consider acceptable and have therefore been booted. And not just on one side either.

If you are offended by the powerful being asked to show mercy to the powerless, then you are no Christian no matter what you call yourself.

Has ANYONE actually done the research to determine if the old concept of claiming sanctuary in a church has legal standing still? This would likely have to be done on a state by state basis, but it might be worth investigating NOW rather than later.

The more I reread Kipling's Recessional, the more apropos I find it these days.

Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!

Haiku for Social Media:

If it is not kind
And necessary and true
It should not be said.

Absolutely. Still sing it in the elevator at work occasionally.

What was it? "Ground up and homogenized music of the mindless throng" ? Bravo, sir, bravo!

I politely disagree. Getting rid of the Electoral College means that NY, FL, TX and CA will set policy for the entire country. That's not a good thing.

I got followed by some random person that I didn't recognize. Took a look at their posting history, and it's all "filtered by bluesky for hate language" (paraphrasing). The one or two unfiltered posts are crying about being filtered by "snowflakes". Blocked.

Today's Tightrope was rather easy - I only had to guess at the last question. I blame my life-long love-affair with books.

The number of people who are lauding the murderer, calling him a hero, etc. - it's frightening if you think about it. And it's hypocritical as well in many cases, as many of these people are the same ones who scream that guns are evil and should be banned from private ownership.

If someone greets you with "Happy Holidays!" when you prefer "Merry Christmas!" - it's rather small to take offense at it.

It's possible that your "Merry Christmas" is just as offensive to them.

Far more befitting the season to take such greetings in the spirit they were intended.
