Bonobos transformed how we think about animal societies. Can we save the last of the ‘hippy apes’? They are peaceful, female-led and use sex in everyday interactions. Now a new conservation scheme could offer a lifeline to our critically endangered close relatives living on the Congo river

Beautiful photographs illustrating a sad story: “We estimate the population at fewer than 20,000 individuals. Perhaps even fewer than 15,000. They are now critically endangered.”

Exclusive: Instagram shows more ‘eating disorder adjacent’ content to vulnerable teens, internal Meta research shows Meta researchers found that teens who report that Instagram regularly made them feel bad about their bodies saw significantly more “eating disorder adjacent content” than those who did not, according to an internal document reviewed by Reuters.

Absolute bombshell from @jeffhorwitz.bsky.social:

Meta's internal research found that Instagram's algorithms preferentially displayed harmful content to vulnerable teens.

I'm glad I left Instagram back when I did, even if it was for other reasons (their anti-LGBTQ policies).

I have been off social media for quite a while due to the passing of a near and dear person. Most things appear futile after such an event. That being said I have been very busy and I’ll tell you about it in posts to come. Looking forward to reconnecting ! 🥳

IAST’s Scientific Council played an important role in shaping its success. When IAST Director, I knew I could count of getting insightful feedback, based on interdisciplinary research elsewhere. For their time and dedication, I am deeply grateful thankful to Joel Mokyr and the other council members.
