Trapped in my brain forever: Lester Bangs' description of JM as "inordinately full of himself."
there are so many worse things in the world, but the decline and fall of once-great copyediting departments is a source of personal grief for me. (there's a bluesky stalwart being done dirty in a major outlet this morning.)
easter island is scarier than i thought
you're right, i guess what makes it seem like punishment is people gleefully applauding it on social media
yes, it's very important that this woman be punished for her vote, which we are entitled to guess at in order to pass preemptive judgment on her

i'm not convinced that being more objective is always better – i think people bury their own feelings and experience in the attempt — but we can agree that it's a useful skill to cultivate.
i agree with you about that. i'm just pointing out that a lot of very toxic people claim "objectivity" when what they mean is ignoring other people's experience, so while (for instance) something like cbt can be useful, it's good to acknowledge that we're inherently subjective beings.
man i don't even follow basketball and i watched that for way longer than i thought i was going to
Oh dang
i think this person has good intentions but the fiction that "objectivity" is possible when assessing oneself is responsible for a lot of bad behavior; e.g., i'm sure both musk and andreesen consider themselves to be wholly objective even as they continually inflict their own neuroses on the world
fair enough
