Doing this was the right call. I feel like my old self again 💪

Oh no! I would have loved to have met you. I’m on a mission to meet as many people face to face that I know on here.
Three cool scientists introduce their work "Our new theory has been submitted to a peer-reviewed journal, but we feel its depths and intricacies are best appreciated on the limited-edition vinyl release."

Given ongoing conversations around #measles and #vaccines, I wanted to share our poster on measles vaccine intentions among Canadians- currently presented at #ESCMIDGlobal2026
A similar study in the U.S. observed comparable patterns of hesitancy—a concerning signal as measles resurges globally.
Maybe next year I’ll manage to say hello
Doesn’t look like they’ve announced it yet

Using a panel of different H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b viruses and human seasonal influenza, and mammary explants from common beef and dairy cattle breeds, we add to the growing data showing that H5N1 spillovers into cattle should be seen as an ongoing risk

Sobering talk from Timothy Walsh from Oxford, UK on the rising antibacterial resistance even to the NOVEL agents
For example we are already seeing growing reports of Cefiderocol resistance - and we have barely started using it.
As usual we are being outrun by the bacteria

I’m not leaving #ESCMIDGlobal2026 just yet, but I want to take the opportunity to say what a great meeting it has been. Sadly I didn’t get to as many sessions as I would have liked, but catching up with past and future contributors to @lancetmicrobe.bsky.social has been a joy.
Read it, it’s free.

I had to skip Grand Rounds, which was one of my go-to sessions 😢
mAbs have been on a difficult journey. Very limited success probably due to background immunity
Antivirals need to be used very early. But more trials are needed
Important to consider using these drugs in combination to shield them from resistance
Five antivirals approved in Europe, all for seasonal influenza
It is inevitable that mRNA will be an important platform for pandemic response
EMA is the first organisation to approve an mRNA influenza vaccine
mRNA vaccines are under development (irrespective of the US situation)
Four preparedness vaccines are “on the shelf” awaiting the call to action
Pre-pandemic=pandemic preparedness vaccine
Pandemic vaccine will be formed from the pre-pandemic backbone and the seasonal vaccine
Vaccines are the key pillar in the response. Plan has been in place for many years
Final speaker is Marco Cavaleri with Antivirals and vaccines: readiness for a future influenza pandemic
Risk to general public is low, slightly greater to those in contact with livestock. But surveillance is still a priority
But the accumulation of mutations and traits needs close monitoring
Reassortment has only been seen between avian viruses
But does occur in poultry, wild mammals, and cattle. The cattle detections were serological
Across Europe human infection is rare/nonexistent
