We were told crypto would abet drug sales and trafficking and I'm sure it does, but it's also just an extension of the standard kleptocracy. Covers far more fraud.

I want Pirates of Dark Water. Comic, animated, live action, I don't care. Gimme that serialized story, with an ending.

The other Treasures of Rule are out there, dammit

I sat in the Vegas airport for ten hours, listening to the DINGALING of slot machines, before flying into the wrong airport (Dallas Love) and another hour in a taxi to get to my car. After a week of CES.

The coworker in front of me in the airport checkin line made the flight I missed. Never again.

You know, I bet there was a discussion in the writer's room about renaming Starbuck for the reboot.

"Your Account is Suspended" Message on X

The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X.

I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!).

So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.

Why I left How-To Geek and Valnet I quit my role as News Editor of How-To Geek last week. It was the best job I ever had, until the company was sold to Valnet in 2023, one year after I started. The goals slowly became completely...

It feels weird to not be writing tech news for the first time in nine years, but I had to quit my job at How-To Geek, because Valnet is a horrific company and I had never-ending burnout.

I'll still be working on @spacebar.news and @techtalesshow.com, though, and other side projects.

Investigation: Are RAM prices dropping, or is it all illusion? The short answer is...no. A few months of high but flat prices, and a few small dips, don't signal a return to sanity for consumer-level memory and storage.

There have been a lot of "RAM prices are FINALLY going down" articles/videos lately. I did a deeper dive into the situation, and I'm sorry, there's no light at the end of the tunnel yet.

Every time something like this happens I think about that BBC reporter who completely made up a website about which journalists could pound the most hot dogs and it immediately started turning up in AI overviews:

A Prominent PR Firm Is Running a Fake News Site That’s Plagiarizing Original Journalism at Incredible Scale A PR firm is running a strange AI-fueled plagiarism mill that's ripping off — and mangling — a huge amount of local and national reporting.

NEW: We caught a site run by a buzzy PR firm ripping off local and national journalism at an almost incomprehensible scale -- it's like a fully automatic machine gun spraying bullets of pure plagiarism directly into the internet

I put out a hummingbird feeder to try and cut down on the mosquitoes around my house.

That is, in fact, how you get ants.

Ants have gotten in and drowned in the nectar.

I'm actually impressed. Respect for the life choice.

Why Microsoft is raising laptop prices as Apple makes productivity cheaper Analysts say Apple’s control over chips, memory strategy, and margins gives it pricing power Microsoft and other PC makers lack.

Why is Microsoft raising Surface laptop prices when Apple is effectively lowering them? www.pcworld.com/article/3116...

Cougar's new PC case has a trick I want everyone to steal The MX600 Max doesn't look too special, but it has rear mobo connections, supports 200mm fans, and can swap its I/O panel from top to bottom.

It took a lot of restraint not to put "These were made for me! They're MY HOLES!" in this PC case article

Have you considered switching back to glasses, and compulsively cleaning them every five minutes with the microfiber cloth constantly poking you the butt because it lives in your back pocket?

It's great!

I looked into using "AI" to generate image headers for articles that didn't have one readily available to me.

Then I watched my own browsing habits. If I see an article with an AI-generated lead image, I assume the text was generated too.

Yeah, I ain't using this shit.

AI star symbol.

It's funny (not funny) how this ubiquitous symbol screams 'beware, incoming trash!' I have an instant reaction of revulsion whenever it pops up.

This whole thread is a nightmare and worth reading. But the deliberately not notifying you thing is very strange.

At all the grocery stores around here, the self-checkout machines will pause and yell at you if they detect any unaccounted weight in the bagging area. Why would Target ignore this?

Completely agree. One of the core parts of the Steam Deck's appeal is that it's so affordable. At these prices (and a considerably chunkier build), I'd much rather just get a "gaming" laptop.

Though there are plenty (@adampatrickmurray.bsky.social) who disagree with me.

Investigation: Even USB flash drives and SD cards are becoming unaffordable Over the last year, USB drives, SD, and MicroSD storage cards have shot up in price, just like RAM and SSDs.

Two interesting things in consumer tech this morning. OLED monitors are getting cheaper: www.pcworld.com/article/3111...

Photo of the Delaware River from the perspective of a man sitting in a red kayak, holding a paddle.

I was finally able to get out on the kayak this weekend, for the first time this year. 26 miles on the Delaware.

The water was 48 degrees F. So I still have to use the dry suit.

An eagle I've been watching for three years is now matured, and has a mate and a nest! I wish them all the best.
