happy nice nature day
Based strictly on premiere impressions, my season looks something like this. Seems like a real strong one--notably without being carried by sequels. As always, let me know if I missed any 🫡
I have determined the responsible way to experience Kamiina Botan will be to watch each episode once in the morning and once again in the evening with a drink or two in hand
That's a wrap for my Winter 2026 anime. Surprisingly a very good season, though maybe it shouldn't have been so surprising considering the number of sequels/spin-offs. A handful of new anime really delivered though and you love to see it.
Seihantai na Kimi to Boku checks the do's and don't's of a good romcom and its production is genuinely just very fun. I'm slightly worried about a repetitive or overly saccharine second season, but this one gets a comfortably passing grade. Needed more Nabe though
Sometimes my tendency to watch everything containing a semblance of yuri has me watching some terrible anime and Omagoto is one such time. No redeeming qualities, no further notes.
Before this season of Jujutsu Kaisen, I was so uninterested in its plot, mechanics, characters, etc. that I almost didn't bother with it. Now that I've watched it, though, I still don't care about any of that. But I did have a good time anyways so I guess it it can't be that bad.
I sort of hate that so many of my complaints about Trigun Stargaze just boil down to "Vash spent way too much time crying and not doing anything cool", but here we are. I wanted to appreciate the themes and morals and such, but nothing really landed among such a general lack of entertainment value.
Fate/strange Fake is a welcome reminder of how damn fun Fate series can be when they're doing their thing. With basically everything left unresolved, I'd happily watch as many seasons of this as they'll make.
While Sousou no Frieren S2 is pretty far from being a bad or even average anime, clearly either the material has grown far more monotonous or Saitou was doing much more heavy-lifting than previously understood. My suspicion is it's a bit of both, but I'm still planning on future entries in any case.
Ikoku Nikki explores such a wide array of emotions with such a variety of origins and manages to do every bit of drama—from the mundane to the life-changing—such beautiful justice. And all with expert delivery via its metaphoric imagery and an Ushio sound track that hangs with his best. Likely AOTY.
Oshi no Ko's greatest boon may be its plentiful quantities of cute character animations to keep those simple brain neurons activated. Thankfully S3 was still solid in this regard. Not sure how engaging I'd call the drama at this point, but we've made it this far so we may as well see it through.
Toujima Tanzaburou wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai certainly suffers from poor quality and repetitive gags. By the end, it was obnoxious far more than it was funny even if its overall entertainment value hovered around "passable" thanks to it being a genuinely fun concept.
Kirei ni Shitemoraemasu ka could have been an entirely harmless and maybe even cozy little anime, but instead accomplished nothing more than blandness and an unnatural high-school boy romance subplot inserted in highly unnatural ways. Totally skip-able. I'll even recommend you skip.
Medalist S2 feels like a bridge connecting more relevant parts of the story, but I found it quite enjoyable nonetheless. The lion's share of the credit obviously goes to the source material, but the anime remains sufficient enough for me to keep going with it (I will read the manga someday, I swear)

Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu was always going to be an emotionally taxing show if it did its job right, but it was pretty refreshing to see an artistic approach to a rather meathead idea. I would wonder if/how future seasons would hold up but for what it was, this was a good watch.
While it was far from flawless, Gnosia was a surprisingly entertaining show considering its pitch of "an Among Us anime with time looping." But it was well-constructed with flamboyant yet fun designs and it played its sci-fi cards effectively enough to make for an unpredictable, good time.
Already time for ye old seasonal anime thread: Winter 2026 edition
ultra shipping their friendship
I did experience what felt like mild enjoyment from the previous episode which, coincidentally, was maybe the only episode without Kyuu-kun. I imagine this show could have worked had it not spent a majority of its screentime trying to force deeply shitty romance down our throats via terrible writing
Just about every episode The Universe, society, and probabilities twist in unnatural ways to force two people with no real connection into the same room for a little longer. But they are both tied for first in the race for the most boring individuals ever written and so there will never be sauce.
It can look slightly derpy at times, but also has some rather neat storyboarding throughout. The characters are fresh and interesting, the drama real, the premise symbolic yet fun. Probably some criticism regarding its pacing would probably be fair, but I hardly mind.
Rewatched Fragtime and my previous impression, "weirdly underrated", seems to hold up looking at its ratings
At the end of the day, I had a good time with it and have become an even bigger fan of historical fiction. We should do it more often! (won't be the last time I say it)
Last minor gripe is probably that I vaguely wish they had done more with gender things with Oscar. Not sure specifically what I wanted to see, but was just generally uninterested by what they presented so that's a complaint.
As for production things, I'd say there was a whole bunch of incredible art (mostly background), but there was a general lack of animation even for the late 1970s. The baroquian music contributed much to the atmosphere and I wouldn't change it even a little.
Uniformly, the best characters in the show were the villainesses if you ask me. Both the Jeannes were bad bitches (compliment) and Marie Antoinette (if you wanna get fancy and include her) was arguably the most interesting aspect of the whole show.
