6/7 Unless Jack addresses eating beyond the point of fullness, Maya creates a new evening relaxation routine (involving food treats but less of them) and Rowan works out how to nourish their body within the constraints of a demanding work schedule, the weight will creep back on.
5/7 We each overeat in our own particular ways.
If Jack, Maya and Rowan all go on the same diet (whether that's low carb, WW or keto), they will be changing their overall pattern of eating, without necessarily addressing the very specific eating habits that are keeping them stuck.
4/7 * Rowan's work schedule makes it difficult to take meal breaks, so they grab food on the go, and eat extra to avoid being hungry later.....
You get the idea.
3/7 * Maya treats herself at the end of the day with snacks and wine, once she finally gets some time to herself. This makes her feel guilty, so the next day she restricts what she eats during the day, and by the following evening feels she has now deserved the treats, so the cycle continues.
2/7 * Jack clears his plate, whatever he is served, irrespective of how full it makes him. He's come to associate feeling full with feeling safe, so chooses portions that produce this feeling.
1/7 Imagine sitting in a group of people all wanting to lose 10kg in weight.
They may all have different reasons for wanting to lose the weight, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that they would all have gained the weight slightly differently

Worry is a normal part of life, but can become debilitating
Eating may offer a distraction, & a temporary fix, but quickly becomes just another thing to worry about

Phenomenally helpful was my supervisor’s advice when I began writing up. Estimate the time it will take you to complete each section, then multiply that by 1.5
I submitted bang on time, mostly thanks to that advice.
I’ve just watched this interview with the brilliant scientist Dr Kevin Hall. It’s always uplifting to listen to scientists whose work is rigorous, & who are clear about what can and can’t be inferred from what they found. More power to your elbow, Dr Hall!
Super-wise words, as always, from Dr Amy Ahern
This is so shocking to read, and I am deeply sorry to hear it. You are so highly admired and esteemed, and your work is a beacon of scientific rigour and integrity. Kind regards. Helen McCarthy
