I said this in another comment below that if memory serves, 30 years ago, Boomers were more conservative than their GenX counterparts. The other commenter thought it was a weird tendency about middle age. I would be fascinated to find this old data to review my memory/hypothesis.

That’s my hypothesis too, cause if memory serves, 30 years ago, Boomers were more conservative than the other generations (though now boomers are more liberal than their GenX counterparts.

I’m wondering if we looked at this same survey (generic D vs generic R) 30 years ago how different it would be for age (not generation) and see if it’s just a natural tendency as one gets older to become more conservative (rather than hyping it as a MAGA equivalency).
