First piping plover sightings of the season at Montrose Beach: ‘It literally made my day’ Pippin, who’s been frequenting Illinois since 2024, was spotted Monday afternoon. Then Imani, son of beloved pair Monty and Rose, showed up later in the evening.

Pippin's back. And now Imani is too! www.chicagotribune.com/2026/04/13/p...

Documentary proof of citizenship requirements don't make elections safer; they leave people out of the democratic process.

As our report—mentioned in @nytimes.com—shows, these laws have an unequal impact on people of color and a huge effect on state budgets. https://demos.nyc/4dSIc6t

A teenager was struck and killed by a CTA bus on South Shore Drive in December. The CTA bus driver didn't even stop until passengers started screaming at him.
Kids should be able to ride scooters and walk in our neighborhood.

I see my former classmates proudly sharing CDOT strategic reports, saying that active transportation is "noticeably different than it was four years ago."
Really? Maybe where you live.
Not in South Shore.
Painted a pride flag in crosswalks on 71st and Jeffery? Replaced a couple flexible bollards?

It's remarkable that no one even mentions any changes to the roadway or traffic calming measures. There's not a single traffic light between 71st and 78th on Exchange.

South Shore has two of the most dangerous intersections in the city year after year.

Nothing changes.

Safety of e-scooters questioned as family grieves teen killed in hit-and-run Violet Harris’ death underscores growing concerns about the risks of riding small, low-speed electric vehicles and the shortcomings of the user agreements riders have with the companies that rent them...

It is so on brand for Chicago that a driver hits and kills a child in a hit-and-run, hits ANOTHER child, and the media blames the child and their scooter. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/03/25/s...

It was like last month.

Transgender women athletes banned from Olympics by new IOC policy on female eligibility Transgender women athletes are now excluded from the Olympics after the IOC agreed to a new eligibility policy It aligns with U.S.

This'll have virtually no effect on trans women, who already weren't competing in the Olympics (in the more than 20 years in which trans women could participate in the Olympics, a grand total of... 1 actually made a team. She came in dead last in her event).

However....

Minnesota Diary: Notes from a Somali Mother During ICE’s Winter Invasion A magazine of Black politics and culture

"I’m constantly calculating scenarios of witnessing a neighbor being taken or being stopped and having to show my passport. My child is a Black boy whose voice has completely changed this year. How do I explain that he’s so young?" hammerandhope.org/article/minn...

A year later, I'll say: we will never know— we will never have the faintest idea— how much money is getting made in insider trading windfalls from people in Trump's circles who have an hour of notice about the chaotic swings in stuff Trump just *says* about the war with Iran.

So much love and solidarity to Ana Murguia, Debra Rojas, Dolores Huerta, and every other survivor. Chavez was just a man; women like them, then and now, are the true heroes of the farmworkers’ movement.

ICE Killed A Man Outside Chicago Last Year. Little Has Been Done To Investigate Neither the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office nor Franklin Park police chose to launch probes into the death of Silverio Villegas González. That’s in stark contrast to Minneapolis, where local off...

ICE agents shot & killed Silverio Villegas Gonzalez after he dropped his kids off at school in September.

Minn officials launched investigations into Pretti & Good's killings. Cook County has not done the same for Villegas Gonzalez.

I think this story is helping me understand why the generation Dolores Huerta inspired was so strongly tied to the idea that activism should be intersectional before anything else. It's not a buzzword, it's about keeping abusers out of your movement

I read the NYT piece, and I am holding onto the words of a woman who fended off inappropriate advances from a 60-year-old Cesar Chavez at the age of 19. “It makes you rethink in history all those heroes,” Esmeralda Lopez said. “The movement — that’s the hero.”

This is ridiculous.

Dyslexia (or any other disability) should not be disqualifying for a presidential candidate.

Newsome should be disqualified because he is a transphobic, neoliberal, centrist stooge.

Hey, I know you're suffering because we waged a pointless, massively expensive, forever war that I promised would never happen if you elected us, and we did it without the slightest bit of preparation, which is compounding the pain, but hey, at least a bunch of foreigners are suffering more!

There are effectively 2 theories of the case

One is that silence on sports and minors made it easier for conservatives to push far broader restrictions. The other is there's no middle ground, and every concession just becomes grounds for the next attack
