Blast away and go, go, go with this Metal Slug 1 English Neo Geo manual scan! Just in time for the game’s 30th anniversary… it’s the terrible twosome’s rollicking assault!

Hi. I wrote 6000 words about a bunch of Mario-themed editions for a children's board game. It's about Yoshis falling to their deaths. I sincerely don't know how to make this sound interesting to people. Enjoy?

New article is We All Had That One TV Show We Were Obsessed With curiousbritishtelly.substack.com/p/we-all-had... You didn’t just watch it, you studied it. Collected it. Rewatched it to the point where quoting whole scenes became muscle memory.
Over at RetroAchievements, @laytonloztew.bsky.social created a partial translation of 珍道中!!ポールの大冒険 (Pole's Big Adventure). This was an extremely fun way to experience this game! I strongly recommend checking this out.
It's really funny growing up seeing jokes about how much people fucking hated these two characters on the N64 only to learn later down the line that there was just intense dissonance between gamers and the main characters who actually valued their safety and presence as friends
It may not be the best Spider-Man video game, but this *is* the best Spider-Man video game ad...
we took "say your goodbyes, lardass, 'cause you're already deadaaAAAAAAAAAAAAA--" for granted
The original i-mode port of Cleopatra Fortune was preserved by @wowmd.bsky.social and Cuebus! This was released by Taito in 2002, making it a very early keitai game. It was later updated with improved visuals.
A painting (used as a magazine poster) by Earl Norem of various Masters of the Universe characters fighting
I do believe there is such a thing as good art and bad art. But I also believe there should be a museum of toy packaging and marketing art so I can stand in front of this Masters of the Universe poster by Earl Norem and talk about its composition like it's The School of Athens
Art by Ezra Tucker for Tyco's "Dino-Riders" toy line. There is a lot going on, there is a jungle area to the left and a mountainous desert to the right, all through out are various dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals kitted out with laser beams and missile launchers, troop carriers and the like, and "may as well be humans" and anthropomorphized animals of all sorts are obviously riding them as they engage in an epic battle for control of the planet in the indeterminate and anachronistic "Time of Dinosaurs".

no one man invents a video game, let alone a video game genre, but Kishimoto claims that he based Kunio-kun on his own life so I think he comes pretty close. RIP.
revision happened this weekend, the big european demoscene event, and razor1911 have released a demo celebrating forty years in the scene

I do recommend watching Visionaries if you haven't (there's only 13 episodes anyway) because it has a fascinating power dynamic for an 80s cartoon: in addition to the usual goodies and baddies there's Merklynn who is basically the wizard version of an arms dealer 1/3
This BBC News Online piece will be the most effective publicity my new documentary about Flight into Danger gets. So if you have enjoyed the programme, think you may enjoy it, or are just a kind soul, if you could please share this anywhere you think it may be worth sharing, I'd be very grateful!
not to blow my own horn but basically all the documentation of this proto prior to release was done by me, cuz no one else was interested in doing it :)
the longplays on yt were recorded by me too
I'm always happy to see you around, but I'm glad you're feeling better after spending less time on the socials -- exposing yourself to The Horrors to keep up with pals does wear on the ol' brain a bit. Do what's best for you!
My March Simpsons review is up! In the spotlight this month is "There's No Disgrace Like Home" of Season 1, in which the family's defiance proves impervious to operant conditioning. People always complain about their OOC-ness in this early outing, but are they failing to see the woods for the trees?
Found out about this manga that Shotaro Ishinomori did on Black Jazz musicians, His depictions of Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington are killer
Looks like it was FM Recopal (FMレコパル). The Japanese Wikipedia lists some of the subjects and the mangaka, but not when they were published. Mandarake has a bunch of issues for sale, and scans of their contents pages.

My #WomensHistoryMonth edition of Localization Lore is up! Check it out to learn more about some of the ladies who were active in the J>E video game localization industry during the early 90s, including the origins behind "You spoony bard!"

I've been struggling with my writing recently. That Mary Tyler Moore variety show stuff is just stupidly confusing and complex.
So I've written a real old-school rambling blog post instead, about an old BBC Micro games compilation.

There's a PlayStation demo CD with a restricted build of *Ridge Racer*. It's from 3 weeks before the final, making it some of the earliest PlayStation software.
I patched out the limits to enable full access. There are lots of differences!

Bomberman fandom's always been a bit scattered (or tribe-like) but now more than ever it's felt very isolated from each other...! I see little coves on Tumblr, but not the same group interaction like there used to be.
It's lovely seeing your Orion art again, hoping it finds the audience it deserves!

My Bomberman site updated with some guff after who knows how long. Want to read about the behind-the-scenes on the Bomberman Jetters anime? How about the minute differences between four unique ports of NES Bomberman? If not, that's all I got, sorry.
