I feel like the goal of this administration is to sew discord with our communities. To make it harder for us to see things from the same angle. But is it my responsibility to open people’s eyes to what’s obvious?

But now I feel torn, I mean she was my friend at one point… should I have given her a chance to explain more? She did give a few reasons as to why she felt it was necessary to vote the way she did. None of which made sense or were valid to me.

She proceeded to make a case for continuing a friendship that, if I’m being honest, had already begun falling apart. I stuck to my guns and told her that there was no reason for us to be friends because I’m not the type of person that she would want to associate with.

Which feels rich because it’s what that side always says. And of course you wouldn’t because my political beliefs don’t oppress you. My political beliefs don’t deny your identity. My political beliefs don’t stop you from prospering in this country.

That there wasn’t any bad blood, but I don’t associate with people who think the way she does. She called me laughing because she thought it was a joke, but she soon realized that I was very serious. And complained that she wouldn’t stop associating with me just because of my political beliefs.

Anyway, for the first time since the election she texted me. I debated not saying anything back, but my therapist recently said that ghosting is something that is harmful for my generation. So with my therapist words in mind, I told her that I don’t wanna be in her community anymore.

I want to bridge gaps and bring us all together but the hurt and irritation of the situation is stopping me from moving forward in that.

If she wants to be in a relationship with someone who is telling her that it will be temporary, that’s her business. But somewhere in the midst of it, all she became conservative. Which feels very oxymoronic to me and difficult to understand.

I remember asking her how can she be straight if she wants to be with you? The painfully predictable response was “She doesn’t like girls, she just likes me.” And because I didn’t want to be judgmental I said ok friend and didn’t harp on it. It is her life after all…

We’ve seen each other grow (in different ways) I saw that she was going a different path than me early on though. Before the election she got into a relationship with a “straight”woman. That was a clear departure from our previous views on dating.

I did not tell her that I no longer wanted to associate with her, I just moved around. Admittedly I was confused and hurt by her actions. We were long time friends, I met her when we were 19.

She is queer, black and masc. When I found out how she voted I simply deleted her number and took myself off of her social media.

I’m really proud of myself for my behavior yesterday, I didn’t yell or ruin the vibe because of how I was handling stress not once. That’s really big for me lol

Yesterday was fun, today has been productive. If I fold all these clean clothes I get a gold star ☺️
