Master of Visions and Dreams had to be my most surreal Valar poster yet.

“Irmo the younger [than Nienna and Mandos] is the master of visions and dreams. In Lórien are his gardens in the land of the Valar, and they are the fairest of all places in the world, filled with many spirits.”

- JRR Tolkien, ‘The Silmarillion’

So happy to hear that - honestly that’s the sole idea this drawing developed around

“[Nienna] is acquainted with grief, and mourns for every wound that Arda has suffered in the marring of Melkor… But she does not weep for herself; and those who hearken to her learn pity, and endurance in hope.”

- JRR Tolkien, “Quenta Silmarillion”

She ended up having the phenotype and facial features of my mother - whose pity and compassion for even little spiders and snakes others would crush without a second thought I believe left a mark on me as a child.

For Nienna, whom I believe to the Vala with the most meaningful impact on the world, I wanted to add an embroidery on her clothing in Quenya (Tengwar) that is alteration of a quote from her best pupil, Gandalf/Olórin, which reads with my reductions: “Pity may rule the fate of many.”

Are you guys taking about me or Aulë

1 week ago 1 0 2 0

I love Aulë (and Yavanna).

Dude has the same vibe of just enjoying making things and giving them to people. And then moving on to the next project.

But I also feel for him cos every time he taught someone else how to craft they eventually went on to become utter arseholes (😒 Mairon and Curunír).

Aulë the Smith, the sub-creator 🪨 🔥

“Of the fabric of Earth had Aulë thought, to whom Ilúvatar had given skill and knowledge scarce less than to Melkor; but the delight and pride of Aulë is in the deed of making… he gives and hoards not, and is free from care, passing ever on to some new work.”

“In light is [Varda’s] power and joy… [Melkor], she knew from before the making of the Music and [she] rejected him, and he hated her, and feared her more than all others whom Eru made.”

I stayed as close as possible to my only other depiction of him from years ago. What remains fully the same is his crown-mask covering his mouth, further obscured by a veil. The purpose of this depiction is to signify his impartiality by blocking any expression one may have without such layers.

“[Mandos] is the keeper of the Houses of the Dead,” Eldar says, “and the summoner of the spirits of the slain. He forgets nothing; and he knows all things that shall be, save only those that lie still in the freedom of Ilúvatar. He is the Doomsman od the Valar.”

Yavanna Kementári: You voted, I made it! 🐞 🍃 🦌

“Then Yavanna was glad, and she stood up, reaching her arms towards the heavens, and she said: ‘High shall climb the trees of Kementári, that the Eagles of the King may house therein!’”

- The Silmarillion, “Of Aulë and Yavanna”

Idk if this is a hot take or not but I prefer any individual story/chapter(s) constituting a narrative unity from The Silmarillion to any LOTR book…

Manwë Súlimo, the King of the Valar, became subject to experimenting with types of brushes, line art, coloring and shading I am not familiar with. Kind of learning new things so it’s clumsy, but I am happy with my design. 🦅

The purpose was a rich deep gold but I am glad you like what it turned out to be 🥲

This Galadriel randomly developed when I was working on the RotK poster where I added her as a small figure showing the path for Aragorn, as her coordination secured the victory. Inspiration was Athena but the figure was so small that it lacked details. As promised, here’s the fully fleshed design.

The Eöl design behind the curtain

The sub title refers to Aredhel shunning the sunshine because Eöl wants so - quite the sorrow for the White Lady of Noldor.

Since ‘Nesferatu’ roughly/likely means ‘vampire’, this film is titled ‘Mornedhel’, meaning ‘Dark Elf’, Eöl’s title (also means other things in different contexts but you get the point)

Actor names are replaced by Tolkien characters that would play an important role in my imaginary film. 4/5

It is Aredhel’s bedroom in Gondolin and she feels the call of a very ill fate. A fate that will lead not to her own torment and fall, but also fall of his brother’s legendary Kingdom. 3/5

So I decided to recreate an iconic scene, which also became one of best posters made for this absolute the horror gem, by drawing every single element and detail you can imagine from scratch - yes, wasn’t smart, but it’s from people altogether to smallest items in the room: 2/5

Bringing Tolkien’s Silmarillion with Horror bc why not.

Aredhel’s restlessness driving into her into Eöl’s home, not against her desire entirely but definitely her will violated by the Dark Elf’s enchantment traps. I find this story quite dark for Tolkien, as did I Robert Egger’s Nosferatu. 1/5

My poster art / book cover ideas for The Lord of The Rings trilogy, following my own inspirations and creations only secondary to Tolkien’s words on paper.

It follows a full moon, a new moon and breaking dawn when the morning star is visible. Took more than a year but here we are!
