“Blue changed songwriting forever…”
As part of the 20-page celebration of Joni Mitchell in the latest issue of MOJO, friend, collaborator, and Joni Jams organiser Brandi Carlile discusses Mitchell’s revolutionary approach to songwriting and the enduring power of her work.
This reads like a message, but it’s probably in Italian…

For 2+ years, Beatles fans have been trying to identify one of the discarded cutouts for the Sgt Pepper cover scene. They believe they've found a match with photographer Diane Arbus (!), which looks correct to me, but they still have not sourced the original photo. www.reddit.com/r/SgtPepperM...

Wow, Minutemen at Metro in 85!
Farewell to Dave Mason, a founding member of Traffic who wrote the immortal “Feelin’ Alright.” My obituary for Rolling Stone.
Neil Young: American Stars 'N Bars (Reprise MSK 2261, 1977) Picked this up used on Record Store Day. Has one of my all-time favorite songs. All your dreams and your lovers won’t protect you… Maybe the Star of Bethlehem wasn’t a star at all?

After Prince died ten years ago, I wrote about how he changed my life in the summer of 1984.

Weezer: 1192 (Ernest Jenning EJRC236, 2026) One more unnecessary but fun #RSD release, this is a collection of pre-Blue album Weezer demos. Sounds about as good as you’d expect demos to sound, proving that “all analog” doesn’t necessarily mean “high fidelity.” Exuberant performances though.

Did I just miss it or did you forget to include a link to your epic, ongoing, essential Batdance thread?
Tomorrow marks 10 years since Prince passed. For the first time, I gathered nearly two decadesq of my writing, podcasts, talks & more into one curated resource, including playlists, rarities, a review of every video he ever made, and collaborations I did with his estate. anildash.com/2026/04/20/p...
The Safir GT40 Classic is a hollowbody electric guitar. It's got a double-cutaway body, and the end has been carved to look like the front of a Ford GT40 race car, complete with bulging fenders, headlight cutouts, and even a couple small NACA ducts. Instead of having F-holes, It's got a large rectangular air intake that houses the tailpiece. It's got two humbuckers, and they're controlled by a volume knob, a tone knob, and a 3-way switch. This one is painted in the classic blue and orange Gulf livery.

“Music is energy, it’s a life force.”
On the tenth anniversary of Prince’s death, we revisit one of his last-ever interviews: an intimate one-on-one at his Purpleness’ secret Caribbean lair. “I am a giver by nature,” hears MOJO’s Will Hodgkinson. “I like people, but I test people in many ways...”
A dancing carrot and a dancing banana.
That *is* Miley Cyrus dressed as a banana in the Spike Jonez-directed ad for Instacart featuring Ben Stiller and that kid that does the flips, right?

A picture of a majestic humpback whale leaping from the seas with the caption “humpback whales are forming super-groups”, rather than simply admire the wonder of nature I am making a poor quality music gag
This is why whale punk had to happen

Joni Mitchell: For the Roses (Asylum RCV5 5057, 2026) RSD release featuring Mitchell’s rejected album art with a talking horse showing its ass. This version apparently reuses the Bernie Grundman cut from 2022, which was confirmed to be from the analog master tape. So it sounds good. You can probably find a used original pressing for way cheaper but this is fun.

John Prine: BBC Session (Rhino R1 728494, 2026) A Record Store Day release with just Prine and an acoustic guitar, recorded for the BBC in 1973. No liner notes, no details. Nine songs, all sound great. Pretty unnecessary if you have the first two albums but I don’t have any Prine on #vinyl so this is fun.

The Indigo Girls date is now sold out. (I’m assuming I’m the only person who find this interesting, ha ha, but now I’m committed to the bit so I’m just going to keep running with it.)

She’s so good.
New Discogs app logo no longer features grooves on the record. Should we go full blown Cracker Barrel on this or what?
