Success!!!
We officially have a revolving loan fund for social housing!
City Council was spicy tonight. Despite the interpersonal fireworks, this night will ultimately be remembered as a turning point in Portland’s housing crisis: 12-0 passage of Inner Eastside for All resolution and creation of the Social Housing fund.
Last month in The Onion:
In Oregon, those who purchase a second home qualify for a tax BREAK
So if the home was owned by a person who needed it, the state would collect tax. So the state essentially spends its available tax base to reduce its available housing

I wrote about Dianna Russini, the constant pressure female reporters face to prove they aren't sleeping with sources (plus the pressure we do get from sources to get involved with them), and why all of this is so uncomfortable to talk about.

We just won our trial against Live Nation and Ticketmaster.
A jury ruled in our favor and is holding the companies responsible for their illegal monopoly that cost consumers millions of dollars.
This is a landmark victory to protect New Yorkers from harmful monopolies.
The Trump Admin has abruptly canceled an $11M contract with Catholic Charities to shelter and care for migrant children who enter the U.S. alone, ending a relationship between the Catholic Church and the U.S. government dating back to the first arrivals of Cuban exiles in South Florida.
This is what the Teamsters leadership sold their souls in order to get lol

Today, these Dems likely to hand Trump-Kash Patel FISA Section 702 power to access Americans' emails, texts, calls without a warrant
@meeks.house.gov
@jahimes.bsky.social
@adamsmith.house.gov "undecided"
While Trump admin appears poised to abuse such powers against bogus "antifa" affiliates.
Happy Tax Day, New York. We’re taxing the rich.
Both Democrats and Republicans are hypocrites when it comes to Section 702 of FISA, the law that allows the government to spy on Americans’ communications without a warrant.
It must be reformed NOW.

Congress is set to vote this week on the law @wyden.senate.gov has been warning about, Section 702 of FISA.

If you are appalled by this--and you should be--please try to find one thing POLITICAL to brand Republicans as the pro-terrorist party, especially if you're in a swing district or state.
Call your GOP MoC to ask if they agree with Todd Blanche's decision to let terrorists rearm.

What a nightmare.
Overcrowding, bad (no) medical care, not enough food, filth — these are average and expected in this country’s jails and prisons everywhere.
ICE detention conditions aren’t below the norm — that’s the norm. That’s what 2 million ppl and their families experience every day.
Dear god. Very, very serious allegations of mass civil rights violations at the State of Florida's Everglades immigration detention center (officially known as "Alligator Alcatraz").
She was granted withholding of removal from India *decades* ago, and had been living and working legally (including for the U.S. government!) ever since.
But with third country removals now a real option, TSA shared her data with ICE and they arrested her at the airport on her way to a job.
US attorneys getting humiliated by judges because the attorneys can’t follow the law, given all the illegal detentions and behavior their client (the US government) is committing
What kind of Orwellian stuff is this? "addresses free speech on college campuses" by banning walkouts? I oppose the heckler's veto but come ON
IMPORTANT: Under federal law, it's very hard, at times near-impossible, to sue federal law enforcement officers for civil rights violations. But legal theorists have said for decades that there is a possible way to sue under state law instead.
This is a VERY big test case.
An 80 year old trying to digest and repeat things his internet-pilled 30 year old aides said to his 55 year old senior aides who have 4 kids at home and don’t know why they’re doing this anymore
Not that age has anything to do with it, of course

G Elliott has put forth interesting research showing the “moderate” or “independent” voter doesn’t want “moderate” positions (or only 8% of them do)
What they want is perceived “anti-system” candidates
