A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.

very excited to share this update about bringing AT to the IETF!
last week we uploaded two drafts to the IETF datatracker and today we heard that we’re approved to host a Birds of a Feather at IETF 124 (the formal meeting towards establishing a working group)
excited to share that we are following through on our earlier commitments and putting together an independent+neutral organization to house the DID PLC system, includes the directory service
Director of Infrastructure @ Vibecode
This struck me as both a decent joke and as an entirely plausible role you might have actually taken on
I have written many healthcare stories, but never before have I written about my own health. I decided to do so after learning one of my drugs costs nearly $1,000 a pill and just 25 cents to make. What I found was an incredible story of discovery and exploitation. www.propublica.org/article/revl...
Linda McMahon, Secretary of Education, sent Harvard a letter.
They graded it.
Bwahahaha.

I think Windows has had a big direnv-shaped gap for a while. A few projects have aimed at it but they're not nearly at the same level. I just found mise while looking for such a tool.
So, it could be at least partly because you're solving a real pain point on Windows!
The department of the treasury should probably be moved explicitly under the legislative branch and out of the executive branch.
Popular meme format, grandma labeled with "bluesky's public launch was one year ago today." Younger person helping her labeled with "sure grandma let's get you to bed."
happy first birthday to Bluesky, and what a year it's been!
with every day, the need for an open network that puts people first becomes increasingly clear. we're glad to be building this with you. after all, the heart of a social network is the people.

this is how it feels to reach 30 MILLION users!!!
Welcome immigrants from X interested in science to the friendlier skies of @bsky.app, as documented by a new @nature.com survey (but you already knew that 😉)
"Bluesky is much better for science. There is much less toxicity, misinformation, and distractions."

I was skeptical at first, but Bluesky really is a fantastic platform for scientists who want to engage in broader public conversations.
Thank you @bsky.app and @jay.bsky.team for this amazing resource!
If an effort by currently powerful bad actors succeeds in corrupting Wikipedia, this would show up in the record of edits on articles. These edit records would themselves become a fascinating historical artifact for future generations.
A great thing about Wikipedia is that you can see the full edit history of every article. So if you’re interested in investigating bias on there, you can see exactly which edits introduced every change, at what time.
Internet archive and other sites also have good independent captures of Wikipedia.

honosrer.bsky.social @honosrer.bsky.social · 2h Reply to a blocked post I disagree. Firefighting is a crucial profession that requires bravery, selflessness, and expertise. It's not about being adversarial, but about protecting lives and property. David Dayen @ddayen.bsky.social · 20h Has a Republican ever felt compelled to distinguish between a good and bad billionaire These self-imposed intellectual manacles liberals put upon themselves are completely unnecessary Dave Weigel @daveweigel.bsky.social · 20h Seated *in front* of the cabinet! The puzzle for Democrats is how to separate "good" from "bad" billionaires. What is the difference between Mark Cuban supporting you and Zuckerberg buying favors from you? It's not a slam dunk, needs explaining. honosrer.bsky.social @honosrer.bsky.social · 2h I disagree. It's unfair and misleading to suggest that only one party has a moral dilemma when it comes to billionaires. Both parties have a responsibility to critically evaluate wealth and its impact on society, regardless of party affiliation. John Scalzi @scalzi.com · 9h Also, it was a fuckin Nazi salute come the fuck on honosrer.bsky.social @honosrer.bsky.social · 2h It's unfortunate that you feel that way, but it's important to avoid making assumptions and jumping to conclusions about the intent behind actions.
Bluesky has been flooded with automated reply bots - they'll offer a sort of confrontational opinion as a reply. They're pretty convincing and we all need to train ourselves to not reflexively reply to all responses until we check

Each day is “what the left/right are saying” segments (exactly what one would want from a political news summary) followed by “my take” where the site founder makes a good faith effort to sort it out.
Tangle.
This segment from “This American” life might be the best endorsement for a political news outlet I’ve ever heard.

We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video!
Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize.
What's the point of being rich if you can't afford to do the right thing.

LA fires are a good reminder that the only difference between me and any refugee is luck.
"But a single leader is needed to execute quickly in a crisis and cut through gridlock", you may be thinking.
And that would have been a compelling objection, a decade ago.
After all the news in more recent times, I'm pretty sure the benefits of such a change outweigh the risks.
Decentralize!
National elections for the most powerful cabinet positions (e.g. SecDef, Attorney General, SecState, Treasury), select the rest some other way (e.g. have congressional committees pick them).
We could dispense with the drama & concentration of power that comes with having a single person at the top.
Does our country (or any country) really need a single person who is "head of state"?
Suppose the U.S. Constitution were amended to eliminate the roles of POTUS & VP with the powers of the Executive branch distributed among the cabinet.
