Lol same, I used to regularly cleanup SVGs from tools πŸ˜‚

Yeah honestly so many insane features, css nesting like I'm writing sass natively, css cascade layers that massively simplicity selectors, css grids that make page layout so much fun. The tools are neat but they lack the soul of art direction that writing with grids allows

There are probably a lot of resources and parallels that could be learned from that

Ooh! If you don't mind please do, at least for me it helps to replay the talk in my head and make notes πŸ˜„

Also I would like to recommend AGAINST staying up all night anxiously to leave to catch a 4am train. I ran on coffee, excitement and more coffee. I'm now heading back home to bluescreen crash 🫑

Was also great to go to socialise at the National Videogame Museum, as someone who is really into game dev hehe

Socialising is hard for me, a double whammy of 'I'm as introverted as you can get' and have some auditory issues with noisy places.

So tried to break the ice by walking up to groups, starting chats with people standing by their own, and each time was so worth it and met different kinds of people.

Summoning Up Old Tricks: Remarking Final Fantasy 9 in the Browser by @joehart.bsky.social β€” really great talk about mixing 3d on pre-rendered BGs, implementing a character in three.js and also especially reverse engineering assets which reminds me of my dsp-ratios.com where I RE'd the recipes/data

Intro to WWW for very senior programmers by @whitep4nth3r.com β€” such a fun talk!! A lot of nostalgia. History of web dev of 1995, where web was brand new and html 2.0 was released with the <img> tag

Unwrapping Web Design by @ichimnetz.com β€” really nifty, about breaking down usual max-width page containers with css grids for really interesting page layouts.

Take little work and the benefits are awesome. I'd have loved some more why's and how's to expand on it. Like whitespace, energy of a page

@olu.online 's talk on building betters webs which I felt inspired by towards more creative and connected webs and will actually affect the direction I take on my projects going forward. I'd really liked to have slides or notes or video to recapture the talk tho.

Had a great day from start to end at @frontendnorth.bsky.social #FrontEndNorth!

From @bell.bz's starting talk on genuinely important soft skills. During the break met a group of young software engineers where we talked about the morning talks and I put that talk into context of my own experiences

How Emotions Are Made: The Theory of Constructed Emotion - Forte Labs This post now available in German. The Theory of Constructed Emotion offers a radical new take on what emotions are, where they come from, and how they

Ah yeah there was a really cool quote from a book review article that really gets to me:

Yeah haptic can get pretty wild. If you record the bumps as you slide a finger across a bumpy surface, you can replay the frequencies on a flat glass surface as you slide your finger and feel the same bumps even though it's flat.

When I began making money off of streaming, I had a lot of emotions that I needed to parse through. It didn't feel right to be "taking people's hard earned money just to talk to them" or "profiting off the attention economy".

I think I have a more nuanced understanding of those emotions now.

Yeah but have you actually ever tried that? I couldn't really get it to work or it's not particularly easy or intuitive

Hmm the espruino puck could be coded with deep sleeps that wake on interrupt iirc?

I've been miscounting tho recently. Three columns of two lines are harder to miscount than three vertical lines.
