In competitive authoritarianism, leaders abuse state power to tilt the electoral playing field in their favor, manipulate the media environment and minimize opposition voices, maybe even steal close elections by lying about fraud. But they usually can't overcome a large majority voting against them.
We are all Americans. This attack on our children and families’ constitutional rights won't stand.
Oh, I have done so upstairs for hours - maybe illicitly?
Agora, upstairs
Thanks so much!! Back in immigrants' rights world, hoping our paths cross at some point.
Update: Motion to dismiss denied today, the lawsuit can move forward!

NEW: A judge will allow a lawsuit to go forward in part that accuses Elon Musk of unconstitutionally exercising executive power during his time in the Trump admin last year (yes that's right, *more* DOGE court action today)

We're in court today challenging ICE and CBP's racial profiling and warrantless arrests, which have been sowing fear and chaos in Minnesota communities.
Federal agents are bound by the Constitution, and we will hold them accountable for their lawless actions.

ICYMI: @justsecurity.org created a searchable database of statements from Minnesota residents subjected by DHS agents to suspicionless stops and warrantless arrests without probable cause.

Lesson of tonight's #txlege election: Book banning is unpopular
At Patriot Mobile, Leigh Wambsganss was behind push to take over Southlake, Keller, Grapevine, & Mansfield ISD school bds - leading to book bans, anti-LGBTQ policies, & censorship of curriculum on race

Black quote graphic reading "“I am very worried that the President's consistent degrading comments about Somalis will encourage ICE agents to harass people for no reason other than that they look Somali, much like they did to me and my mother, regardless of citizenship status.” -M.E., ACLU client and Minneapolis resident challenging ICE’s unlawful actions.
It is illegal for ICE to detain U.S. citizens, full stop.
We’re in court reminding the Trump administration of our fundamental rights to due process and to live free from racial profiling.
Today we remember the Porvenir massacre and the lives that were lost. Read more here: refusingtoforget.org/porvenir-mas...

"Silicon Valley tech investors are promoting Greenland as a site for a so-called freedom city with minimal corporate regulation"
One "advocates for building a city in part because its harsh environment could provide a test site for colonizing Mars"

“The message that it sends is that the people impacted by racial discrimination and harassment don’t matter,” said Paige Duggins-Clay, an attorney with a Texas nonprofit (IDRA) that has worked with families who’ve filed racial harassment complaints with OCR.
Masked federal agents are ignoring people's basic constitutional rights in Minnesota.
We're taking the Trump administration to court to put a stop to it.
Some of the stories in here are absolutely chilling. One US citizen of Somali descent was just riding an elevator with ICE agents and then they detained him for almost half an hour in the freezing cold despite him showing agents his passport card. They only let him go once protestors showed up.
*stopping without reasonable suspicion, detaining without probable cause, and engaging in racial profiling
Move fast and break vulnerable human beings.
BREAKING: A federal judge ruled the Trump administration violated due process by deporting Venezuelan men after invoking the Alien Enemies Act.
This is an important ruling for these men who were tortured, and for the rule of law.
Federal courts have unanimously rejected President Trump's unconstitutional attempt to end birthright citizenship.
ACLU National Legal Director Cecillia Wang will be defending birthright citizenship at the Supreme Court.
American public collectively getting a typical FOIA response - heavy, clearly wrong redactions; entire pages blacked out; lots of already-public information (public court filings, the 100s of pages of news articles from the agency's daily email blast)
People detained at the nation’s largest ICE detention center report that officers have beaten them and used the threat of violence and criminal charges to coerce non-Mexican immigrants into crossing the border into the Mexican desert.
We're demanding that the facility be shut down immediately.
The death rate among children under 5 is expected to grow this year for the first time in the 21st century, researchers say. A key factor, they say, is cuts to U.S. and other foreign aid

A federal judge last week blocked ICE from making indiscriminate arrests without a warrant in Colorado, in a case brought by @acluofcolorado.bsky.social.
The Trump administration can't arrest people because of our skin color, accent, or perceived nationality in order to fulfill arrest quotas.
Texas has become a major data center hub, and these projects could increase the risk of blackouts in the winter when the Texas grid is already strained.
THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.
I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.
Never forget that just a week ago, Ross Douthat and the NYTimes were asking if women ruined the workplace.
