1…Qe8+, 2. Kc7 Qd8#
1. Ne8+ Kh6, 2. Qh4#
Phew.
Struggled a bit to see this one.
1. Rxg8 Rxg8, 2. Rxg8 Kxh8 (as …Qxg8 drops the f6 pawn). Then 3. Qg4+ followed by 4. Qc8+, picking up the c7 or b7 pawns?
I got the Evo for Christmas and I love it. Played some 10+5, which is a little too quick sometimes - flagged in one game scrambling to promote - and also some longer games against the engine.
Would definitely be up for a classical game (especially as my OTB club now closed from the fire 👎🏻)
Community has been more important than ever in the last few days in this neck of the woods, and the chess club is part of that - and will no doubt continue to be, in its future incarnation and future home.
The 170+ strong club (with regular weekly attendance 50+) has met there for the last three years every Tuesday.

A minor footnote to the tragedy that has been the Los Angeles wildfires in recent days, but the Altadena Community Church, home to the San Gabriel Valley Chess Club (SGVCC), was destroyed in the Eaton fire #chesspunks
I was spoiled by Santa with a Chessnut Evo board! #chesspunks
Started playing some semi-serious “training games” against the Lichess Maia bots, from certain lines in my opening repertoire (and with board and pieces). Good for the times when I might be a bit distracted around the house.
Got this nice four piece mate today.
Ne7+ looks pretty devastating…
I agree with this!
Nice - I have the convertible card tray - it adds zero functionality but it’s double decker!
Is it a big tournament?
Sounds like a road to madness, if you ask me
Great timing - I just decided to switch to Anki (from physical cards - too time consuming to make, and have been underusing them for study).
I got as far as downloading the app; will use these cards as inspiration ☺️
1…Qe5, you got it. Chris and I had the right plan - but the wrong execution.
Instructive reminder that the best chess moves do more than one thing at once!
That’s also what I played, before sauntering off to the restroom, confident I was going to win 😂
Only to return to 2. Be4!, attacking c2 and x-raying the b1 square, ruining the …Rb1+ plan. Kudos to my ~1100 opponent for finding it.
It’s hard for Black to progress from here, even after …Rb2
Do folks think that maybe Ding has been holed up studying deep ideas in the French and will stick with it throughout (if Gukesh persists with e4)? #chesspunks
Wait, c2. Where’s the edit function on this thing.
Throwback to my first OTB tournament last year. I blundered a piece on move 10 (of course) but managed to get some great counterplay and a pawn to c7.
I missed the key idea and blundered the game away. How should Black proceed? #chesspunks
Nxd5 is even better - same idea but picks up a pawn.
I didn’t see this with my own eyes, but the engine shows Nc4 as losing to …Qd4, when both of White’s Knights are hanging!
Grateful that my opponent missed this nice tactic in my Rapid game today. #chesspunks
I might not have the move order right here - but Bxg5 and after either pawn takes or Knight takes, then R1c6?
Sitting at 11 now I think :)
Obsessed with this Sausages vs Sushi match-up.
There’s a Vienna Game joke in here somewhere.
Going to try and post a position or tactic from one of my OTB or Rapid games here each day (mostly for the <1200 crowd…)
Black to play and win #chesspunks
Agreed - my go-to channel now for game analysis!
