She lies down on her pillow, grimacing as the shiver begins to chatter her teeth again. Talita: Ugh… I’m not snapping because I’m angry, I… Bip: I know you aren't angry. You sound miserable. This mic doesn’t pick up infrasound but I can hear it vibrating the desk. Talita: I wish I’d just cry instead. Bip: Frankly, I think eye lube leakage is a far weirder stress response. Talita's jaw pries itself open again, and her voice becomes shaky. Talita: Whatever… It doesn't matter which I do, I'm still a pathetic freak… Her teeth snap together again with a loud CLACK and another infrasonic groan sends a vibration through the dresser. Bip's avatar looks upset, unsure of how to respond to her self-loathing spiral. Bip: Talita, you are… THE most profoundly xenosocialized person I’ve ever met. I think it's a testament to your fortitude that you're as well adjusted as you are.
The comic panel borders fall away, and Talita, jaw still trembling, props her head up against a starry sky. Behind her in the void, the ring of forty servers that contain the physical person she's speaking to floats, connected to the body of the Runaway by thin strings of white, a metallic electric nervous system of wires and circuits. Talita: …Bip, can I ask a weird question? The servers speak to her through her tablet computer, encoded invisible waves of telecommunication transforming a digital process into the vibration of a synthesized voice and rows of pixels into a live-rendered vector puppet animation. Bip: Sure. Talita: Sapient A.I. like you are all descended from one "faulty" quantum computer coded by bug ferrets, split into thousands of unique copies. They say the reason you cooperate so often with organic people is because just like the sophonts who made you, you have an intense need for social connection. She turns, no longer shivering, to the tablet on the dresser of her cluttered bedroom in the dry storage unit. Talita: Is that true? Do you ever find yourself acting like a bug ferret? Bip: Hard to say, I’ve never been a bug ferret. But as far back as my personal memory storage goes... I’ve always hated being alone.
Bip's avatar perches thoughtfully on the edge of her tablet as if it were a physical ledge. Bip: I copied myself into those phones as a self preservation impulse. But before you recovered them… offline, in a broken ship with a crew I couldn't save… I felt like I didn't have anything left to preserve. Talita lies on her bed, looking at the tablet on her dresser. She responds softly. Talita: I'm glad I found you. You're worth preserving. Bip: That's kind of you to say, Talita. She turns her face into her pillow, thinking. Talita: Bip... will you be looking for a new crew after this? Bip: You'd be welcome onboard. Talita: I'll think about it... On the wall above her bed, behind her posters of rockets and planes and space stations, stars seem to twinkle.
This week on #RunawayToTheStars: Talita cries like a centaur and asks Bip a strange question. Chapter 9 over.

The adding "man-" as a prefix to make things profane always makes me think of this commercial I saw years ago.
Dude says "man-step" with a level of disgust and ire I can't imagine feeling toward anything on a daily basis, haha!

unfortunately, same can't be said for my watercolor sketchbook - which I simply cannot get to lay flat enough to scan well, oops.
A small diagram of Flannel & Mole's Pillbug, a three-segment personal rail vehicle. The description text reads: Once a favorite personal-level train model for weekend trips, The Pillbug features everything you need for a good adventure! This compact 3-segment design has ample cabin space in the front, including a loft for tons of storage, or a cozy, private sleep nook. The middle segment is equipped with a small garage - perfect for tucking away a little half-track for off-track adventures. (Mole has customized the space to carry & power his Borehound Mech up to 70ft from The Pillbug) Finally, the caboose provides excellent storage for anything you'd need on the move with included shelves & a small fridge space. (Nel has added a small service window to do business out of.) There are some faint sketches of the interior and Nel leaning out of the service windows on the next page

The scans from my journal are coming out crystal clear, even in spite of some bleed-through from the surrounding pages, haha!
Oh yo! Scanner came in a few days early!
It set up super easy and my distro of linux already has a scaner tool that works perfectly with it - test scan came out good!
Five minutes left!

Comic of Mole & Flannel: 1. Both sitting in the front seats of a vehicle, Flannel behind a steering wheel, looking up at the rain tapping on the windshield 2. Flannel starts tapping out a tune on the wheel while Mole glowers in irritation. 3. Mole sighs as Flannel continues to drum away and starts humming to the melody in his head 4. Flannel keeps humming, occasionally mumbling lyrics. Mole, sitting with his hand to his cheek, slowly starts to mutter lyrics as well. 5. The two start singing the chorus, both together singing "Some things are so simple, they're impossible to explain" 6. Really getting into it, Flannel starts bobbing his head in time while Mole highs a run of notes as they sing "The Cafe Armadillo (ooOoooOooooo), Stay dry" 7. Showing them sitting in the vehicle in the rain, they finish the chorus together "when you're caught in the rain, we're caught in the rain"
A little lore infographic of about lighting elements in a fantasy setting. There is an image of a jar with several plants inside and snails inching around, and a second image of a sheep furry holding a similar jar, illuminated by a blue light from the jar. The text says "Light elements in setting are largely provided by little aquariums with bio-luminescent plants and snails for maintenance. The life inside is quite clear & bright in a fresh one - many have been working since the world ended, but without occasional maintenance the water will become murky/cloudy and its light will dim. Causes a lot of the light in-setting to be very blue." There are additional notes that jars can be carried in a pinch and that the blue lighting would look at lot like the second image
A set of images of Waguu, the demon cow. They turn, looming ominously and ask "my Pronouns?? I'm a transdimentional avatar of pure lust, great and terrible, capable of reshaping my body on a whim!" They then lean down close with a sultry gaze and conclude, "They/Them will do fine, thank you~"
In the meantime,
Here's a little bit of what sort of thing you can probably expect on this account
General drawings, character comics, worldbuilding notes - that sort of thing. Hope you enjoy!
Actually, know what?
I have a new scanner coming soon.
I'll probably wait for that thing, put it through its paces, get some better images of all the physical art I was gonna post
So it'll technically be all new images posted here, and I'll probably start post in earnest next week.
Hey everyone~
I didn't think it was totally fair of me to keep everything on one account - so this one is going to be for more general art going forward.
Still setting up here - please be patient, but I hope to have a few posts to get it caught up soon. Thank you!
