Good points! I guess he wasn't a real Royal, but he was a recognized son of a king, so close enough. Captured in battle vs. arrested is sort of grey area when dealing with rebellion I suppose, but same difference I would argue.
Posts by Chris Conselice
Charles I may be the last royal arrested until recently, but James II had the Duke of Monmouth beheaded for rebellion and James II himself would have been arrested, or worse, in 1688. Don't forget the war crimes of the Duke of Cumberland, who should have been arrested after the Battle of Culloden.
What a tragedy, how senseless.

Yeah American Astronomers. They write 10 pages essays describing how the person they are writing for is the most amazing astronomer ever with detailed stories and descriptions.
exactly. we should keep this theme, maybe there'll be a conference on the 10th anniversary of the discovery of high redshift galaxies in a few years, because of course we knew of none before JWST.
ultra diffuse galaxies have been around for much longer than 10 years...
New PhD opportunity to study at the University of Manchester and University of Tokyo in a joint PhD on understanding early galaxy formation and evolution. Please share with anyone potentially interested:

Some fun 2025 facts:
2025 is the 1st perfect square year since 1936, and will be the only perfect square year most people reading this will experience - the next is 2116.
Also, (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)**2 = 2025, the last year of this sequence was in 1296 and the next is 3025!
This thread is for authors of scientific papers, and particularly astronomers. I struggled a bit with how explicit I had to be, but I think including a name is important. We (meaning all the major journals) have rules against submitting a manuscript to more than one journal at a time. 1/6
University of Manchester Bicentenary PhD Fellowship available to study the evolution of the universe in my project "Artificial Intelligence and the Evolution of the Universe", which will use Euclid and JWST data to study galaxy evolution over cosmic history.

Agree, this is a bad thing.
No surprises....
New 4-year PhD position available to work with me on machine learning applications to astronomy. Part of a Decision Making for Complex Systems joint CDT between the Universities of Manchester and Cambridge. Send to anyone interested!

JWST folks - every wonder what can be done with all the new fantastic high-z spectra from JWST when combined with photometry? How reliable can we measure galaxy properties? Wonder no more!

Just returned from Hull where I taught at the STFC summer school to about to start 1st year PhD students. A great, friendly, and bright group. The future of astro looks secure in their hands!
