What's your go-to technique for getting back on track when you've had some time off writing? I find if I don't write for more than a week or so, I lose momentum and have to spend time reconnecting with story and character to move on. #writing #authors

Had a great discussion the other day about why we need positive stories right now. For me, it's because we need a counter to the way the world is trending right now. An example of a different way to be, and a different future. We need hope, and as writers, we can give it space to breathe.
Only within close family. I'm just about done with a major edit and will consider sending it out then.
So I had a disappointing pitch meeting with a publisher. She pointed out my novel is too long (which is fair) but immediately concluded it's because I "tell, not show" in my writing. But she hasn't even read any of my writing. So now I'm second-guessing myself. Sigh. #writing #publishing #pitching
Had an awesome time at #genrecon. Made a bunch of new friends and talked craft together. Now it's the week of BRAAAINS trying to recover. I'm kinda glad we left Brisbane before the impending weather of doom, though.
On the way to Brisbane for genrecon, and my gate lounge is opposite the extremely fabulous Virgin Airline disco flight. This explains the large numbers of peoples in sequins, rainbow suits, cowboy hats and other visual delights. I feel like I'm going to the wrong place! #mardigras #genrecon
Today I'm grateful for writer friends, and our pact to do "write club" three times a week, just for half an hour. It's been a hard slog the past few weeks, but today I feel like I've got my mojo again and wrote just over 900 words in 30 mins. #writers #friendswhowrite #creativemojo
It actually depends. For brainstorming and plotting, writing character notes and general ideas, I write. For prose, I type. I feel like each access a different part of the brain.
Meanwhile I went down a rabbit hole about ion engines and how they work, only to decide maybe they weren't right for my book so now it's fluffy space magic/made up stuff instead.
Came across the artist Monokubo recently and now I really want to write stories with giant floofs in them! www.pixiv.net/en/users/454...
I think it's more that people see writing a book as something admirable to do. It's not an easy achievement and not for everyone, but saying you wish you could do something is more of a compliment than a genuine desire. People who really want to write find a way. #WriterSky
Today I have a whole day free to write, and the inspiration of a painted rock that says "Live, laugh, love".
Fellow authors. How do you keep focus when you're at the tail end of a major novel draft and the lure of starting a whole new story is tugging at your willpower? #booksky #authors #writing
*walks into room*
*stares around blankly*
*leaves room*
Wait, what did I want to get in there?
Who needs good internet? Give me a few books and a working laptop or pen and paper and I'm good.
So today and tomorrow I'm working as invigilator for a 4 hour exam. VERY BORING. However, amazing for creativity. I've already got the first few chapters planned for a new book. Let your brain get bored sometimes. www.bbc.com/culture/arti... #writingcommunity #booksky
ooh, we need some of those dice! We were playing darkest dungeon the board game the other night, and between three of us rolled around eight 10s in a row. Conversely to call of cthulhu, we want 1s, not 10s. We survived, just.
This is both amusing and more useful as a writing guide than it might initially look.
