The coffee-table book of his work (Constructions & Reconstructions) is insanely delightful.

APHID will be providing a short set of dense, claustrophobic psychedelia. Ask your doctor if A Total Derangement of the Senses is right for you.

was hooked on the garlic ones at my local co-op for years but we’ve mellowed with age: standard hippie sticks are the way.

I support this. Been calling ‘em Hippie Sticks forever, lovingly.

Retro helmet evolution: After the TORC T1 (comfortable but chin-bar too thin to be much protection), then the Biltwell Gringo SV (sturdy but loud), the Lane Splitter may be the one. Light, comfortable, muzzle shape fits my mutant face, giant vents, suits the guzzi…

That said, a good Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman marathon isn’t a bad way to go.

Alas the timing never works for me to tune in live, so I must drink from the Well of Archives. But this means I don’t pollute the accu with my nonsense (other shows not so lucky) .. but fwiw, deeply appreciate these all-too-brief shows.

A quick his & hers run into the Sonoran golden hour. Before I moved back out here I spent winters thriving on content like this, so … a little something for riders in less hospitable climates.

Winter solstice in Tucson: a lazy ride to silverbell lake followed by an outdoor pint at screwbean. As you do.

One last desert ride before 2 weeks in the cold wet pacific northwest for “reasons.” Weirdly it’s raining here as well, as if the future were leaning into the present with a predator’s terrible arrogance, all saliva and mocking laughter…

the sound this tour is vastly bigger but the volume (in my experience) was more brutal in the ‘80s.. thinking of the Burning World tour gig at the (then) 9:30. Funny since the LP was mellow stuff, but that show was aggressive as hell

indeed. In the ‘80s was one near the King’s Highway station that was like a religious pilgrimage when visiting a musical collaborator on Ocean Ave… Coming from DC (an absolute bagel desert), the Hot Bagels visit was all important.

AND: that Anekdoten LP is ridiculously solid.

Scrappy was the end, the harbinger. We should have recognized THE SIGNS but we allowed it to continue. And now, look around.

Colossal Cave, AZ. I’ve ridden here perhaps hundreds of times (by motorbike and bicycle) over the years and have yet to make it into the actual cave. The ride’s the thing.

Still remember the Man Ray exhibition at (of all places) the portrait gallery in DC in the late ‘80s. They had a huge replica of the metronome/eye assemblage outside the gallery. Life-changing. Also just found the coffee-table exhibition book at a used bookshop in AZ for peanuts! PEANUTS I say (!)

more road-trip nonsense: the V7 is never not photogenic, especially out here. Made it to California (only just: opposite the Colorado from Parker Dam, etc). Longest trip yet since getting the thing last year. Onward.
