Oh I had forgotten about that! Always snuck up on us.

Congrats Niko! Can't wait to read it

wait till they figure out how much faster the airplane, a machine invented by Orville and Wilbur Wright in 1903, can traverse the same distance
Interesting, and honestly I have no idea: that's a chapter of Phillips, Girard and Brown's book that I never read
I agree with this. I also think it goes very directly against the Marxist accounts of this
Just another note: my understanding is that a ton of work relationships were considered somewhat special cases. The sheet variety of master-servant/apprenticeship statutes is astounding. Often hyper-specialised.
The week in review: @kennybauf.bsky.social discusses our broken banking bargain, and Vincent Joralemon reflects on the neglected class dimension of addictive platform design.
Plus, a call for scholarship, upcoming events, and hot new LPE pieces from around the web! 🧵

📣New scholarship from @bartazsofi.bsky.social on how credit rating agencies (Fitch, Moody’s, S&P) discount long-term climate risks to preserve their epistemic authority - preventing the reallocation of capital away from carbon-intensive assets.

I think this is putting a finger on something important. These guys want their money to give them a claim on human labor and its products directly, without the ongoing relationships through which productive labor actually takes place.

Malfunction in coding makes robots chase humans. A group of strangers find themselves stuck in an abandoned apt building, entirely surrounded by robots. One of them is a hacker who learns that the malfunction was intentionally put there by evil global conglomerate seeking to take over the world!
For more than a week, Amazon has managed to keep a death at its Troutdale, Oregon, facility out of public view.
Workers I spoke to are pissed.
Basic Econ is dangerous, because it sounds like it explains much more than it actually does. This allows pundits with minimal policy chops or creativity to sound credible on a whole host of issues.
Today, @kennybauf.bsky.social explains how banks are failing to provide basic services, instead pushing predatory credit products that gouge people at every turn.
It’s time to ask whether public support for banks should come with real obligations to serve the public.
Oh not the first time! Or the last!
Why are you upstate? Please don't say Greyhound layover, because I've done that in Albany too many times!
Does anyone want to put a conference stream together (on law, bodies and medicine?) with me for Critical Legal Conference in London, UK? Conference is 9th to 11th of September 2026.

Mark Carney knows the answer to this question...
Star Trek The Next Generation scene. We're on the D in the transporter room looking at the transporter pad. We see Chief Miles Edward O'Brien, who can skydive w/out a parachute by sneezing jussssst before he lands, standing next to William T. Riker, both in uniform. They're holding up an old piece of NASA ship wreckage. Maybe a 5ftx4ft section of paneling with burnt and charred edges with the US flag painted on and the NASA logo in red. No caption.
There's a handful of tickets left for Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conf (online also available). A fantastic set of speakers will unpack the recent jurisprudence.
Jeremy Waldron will deliver the Laskin Lecture, "Time now to write it in the books of law".

Great piece by Chris Desan about Fed Independence. She looks NOT at the relationship btwn central banks and elected governments generally, but specifically argues that power over money belongs to the legislature, not the executive: www.ineteconomics.org/perspectives...
I've thought about attending this conference so many years, but the timing is just terrible. Especially if you have a family and commute for work... :/
"What on earth is going on?" is maybe the only appropriate opening for a call for papers rn
@nathantankus.bsky.social was all over this
