Pushing To The End I had the fortune of finishing my first novel of 2018 the day after Halloween. After almost an entire year of starting, stopping, starting, stopping, starting, going, going, going, stopping, deleting,...

Pushing through to the end with your #book can be surprisingly difficult, even when youโ€™re very close to completion. Rose Andrews has good advice to help you cross the finish line.

A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers treat them like precious gems when really, ideas are likโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m in agreement with @chuckwendig.bsky.social. So much of the fascination with A.I. art involves fetishizing ideas and ignoring the harm it does by stealing from people. By removing artists from art you gut the creative process.

How to Make Your Villain Threatening If your villain can't hold their own, the story will get boring.

Stories usually need conflict, and a good way to create that is with an antagonist. But if you fumble making said antagonist threatening it can get in the way of the tone and your readers may lose interest. Via @mythcreants.bsky.social

This is important to remember. I'm definitely not the best at keeping things in perspective, and it's often damned hard just getting by. Even still, I feel it's worth the attempt.

Revising Fiction - Going Through the Door Revising fiction may mean adding scenes, context, thoughts, or conflict. Use these visual reminders to spur your imagination.

This is a good perspective to have, @maryleemacd.bsky.social. Revision isnโ€™t something to dread, but rather an opportunity to expand a story beyond its original bounds into the best it can be.
