Private smugness is a hell of a drug 🤣

Genuinely curious: how does the convo go when the research points sharply in a different direction to what’s being taught?
This is a valid point: whenever you see this sort of high-pressure sales tactic turned on a technology, you can be CERTAIN that it's a fake—actually useful new tech sells itself!
And don't underestimate the effectiveness of FOMO as a tool in the hands of a con artist.
Maybe we need motivated parties to incorporate deeply upsetting Reddit posts of yore into contemporary company or product names to trigger accidental breaches from horrifying depths ?
Why do the Japanese like their buns askew (2026)
Public school teachers in my son’s school board still ban the kids from using it, in favour of AI-supported editions of encyclopedias that barely cover any topical or contemporary content relevant to our country let alone smaller scales. It’s maddening.

It's one of ChatGPT's most insidious tells: "It's not X; it's Y" has become shorthand for lazy AI slop.

I genuinely think Microsoft Teams is the worst piece of software I have ever, ever used in my almost half-century on the planet.
What's that? I have an unread message somewhere? Cue a lost half hour as Teams gleefully buries it beneath endless menus and STILL not fucking find it.
*you have maimed the essential vendor and made him a sworn enemy for life*

Batman breaks a gun and exclaims, "THIS IS THE WEAPON OF THE ENEMY. WE DO NOT NEED IT. WE WILL NOT USE IT."
GenAI memes used to dunk on the enemy are still GenAI memes.
This is, essentially a course designed to rob one of the ability to write *and* encourage the acceptance of wrong answers; anti-literary and anti-science. To paraphrase Cicero, 'when, O Cataline, will you cease abusing our patience?'
These are the best levels. Please note that other levels may also be the best.

Old meme shows a dark haired young man pointing with a pen at a white board with text superimposed on it, reading: “ the best time to delete this post was immediately after posting it. The second best time is now”
I am so proud to see my fellow scientists united in rejecting the framing of this exercise, and to see so many offering calm, rational, and thoughtful statements about the flawed logic of presenting these issues as matters of popularity.
I’m just not that clever personally
It’s so disappointing & depressing that you’re calling criticism of the MAGA/MAHA regime “vitriol.” It’s a regime that is proudly dismantling science & public health, pushing disinformation, driving up suffering, targeting the vulnerable, kidnapping people & killing nurses in the street. “Vitriol” 👀
the devil just blinked
I believe the frame that minoritized scholars are helped by unethical tech is a trap to avoid. We better fight the system of inequities ourselves & not buy into industry frames trying to sell their discriminatory, polluting, and exploitative tech as "inclusion".

In my orbit there’s a paper that still gets 100+ cites a year as a reference meta analysis despite being 35+ years old that was openly but politely called out for stats errors (alongside a corrected estimate) in a reputable journal circa 2012
Seems wild that (unless I’m mistaken?) there’s still no widely used method to mark something as “We All Agree This Is Wrong Now” in big bright letters to try to stem the flow of continued citations.
Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work*
Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!

Time for this again
Notice how they never cite a study or statistic that justifies AI use in the classroom. Why? Bc there is basically no evidence that AI improves student learning outcomes (and they know it). Politicians are putting corporate profit ahead of student needs—a corporate-backed science experiment on kids
Universities: We teach critical thinking, and always ask for evidence, especially for extraordinary claims! 😤
Also universities 🫣:
People who shit on Cleveland have never had to live in Columbus, and it shows.
I lived in 3 cities in America for at least a year, and two of them are on this list.
…. Annnnnnnnnnnnnd I don’t disagree with this assessment of them in the slightest. 😬
I’ve had several people tell me they’re surprised that I’m opposed to war with Iran because I’m such a fan of a war video game and I think what’s going on here is that those people are just complete idiots.
I remember being told (apocryphal?) stories about shared branches of our academic tree pressing “Run” on SAS code… and then having to walk across campus to some giant mainframe building and praying the dot matrix would report the code had actually executed as planned — is this the 2026 equivalent?
