LETTER: Canada’s disability benefit falls short as costs escalate 'If the federal government is serious about building a strong Canada, it must include people with disabilities in that vision,' says CEO of Inclusion Canada

Costs are indeed escalating. Food prices are up 30% since the pandemic. Our CEO Krista Carr is urging Ottawa to act on disability poverty. Contact your MP & let them know a better Canada Disability Benefit would provide more stability, hope and possibility.

Pro Bill 18: Alberta moves to limit assisted death; now Canada must follow Opinion: Alberta moves to limit assisted death; now Canada must follow

We & @inclusionalberta.bsky.social commend @youralberta.bsky.social for Bill 18 regarding medically assisted suicide. Track 2 #MAID is discriminatory & perpetuates dangerous, ableist assumptions that life with a disability is not worth living.

As stated by the family, this woman was immediately offered MAID by the doctor before any other treatments/suggestions. She went to the hospital with back pain and was looking for care. As per law, this shouldn't be happening and it also shows the appropriate medical safeguards aren't in place.

Alberta seeks to set limits on use of medically assisted dying The Canadian province has proposed legislation that will limit its use solely to end-of-life circumstances.

The Alberta Gov't is taking steps to scale back assisted suicide. We hope other provinces follow suit and provide the economic and social supports that enables individuals to thrive.

We commend the Government of Alberta for introducing Bill 18 today in the Legislature. Since Track 2 MAiD was introduced, 2,050 Canadians have died. They are people who may have needed support—not assisted death.

Now we need national reform to save lives.

Families of Canadians who received MAID talk of rushed assessment, not being told of decision: study Canada's law focuses on the rights of people to choose when to end their lives, but many families said they should be included.

This news story serves as another example of how Canada's assisted suicide law has gone way too far. Parliament must say no to expanding Medical Assistance in Dying and also Repeal Track 2 which has claimed the lives of 2,050 people between 2021-2024. nationalpost.com/news/familie.... #cdnpoli #MAID
