I am an American living in Canada who loves bourbon and misses it very much, and I 100% believe that Canada absolutely should not have US spirits on the shelf right now.

You can’t do that to rural voters! What are they, black people? bsky.app/profile/coll...

I can't believe I'm waking up to collard slander.

This govt is literally trying to kill us. They had glass in the Trader Joe's and Costco fried rice!!

Collards are a HEALTHY legacy food. Mustards are my girls but collard greens are unbeatable.

Let's call fast food "poverty food", not collards.

And I am positing that one (unexplored, here) reason people may not vote is that they have unrealistic expectations about what voting is, what it’s for, and what it can accomplish.

I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals

Love the energy but I wouldn’t get that close to RFK without PPE

if there is a path to either national nonpartisan redistricting or proportional representation, it is going to go through one party or another. but the first step toward it actually happening is for that party to win power, and you go to war with the system you have, not the one you want.

I guess you could boost Tucker Carlson being critical of Trump OR—hear me out—you could boost one of the millions of people saying the same thing that aren’t fucking white supremacists

The solicitousness pols show to groups that always vote (e.g., old people) versus those that generally don't (e.g., young people) suggests otherwise.

And you're free to do that! But in so doing, you're giving them every reason to never listen to you.

I think it’s fair to consider staying home one of the choices. But I’m not convinced that anyone has effected positive change by not participating.

This is good stuff. I cannot help but wonder if part of the problem is not one message vs. another (though I know the data here support that) so much as convincing people that voting is an expression of preference among constrained choices, not a pledge to support every last thing a pol does.

Although…reaching back in time to alter the past so as to make Doom more important is exactly the sort of thing Doom would do…

I (naively) thought casting RDJ as Doom might signal a shift away from the overweening obsession with canon and interlocking everything but I should have remembered who we’re talking about

Look man I enjoy a lot of superhero movies fine and I have hundreds of comics (and have read even more) but this is baby-brained storytelling in the service of greed.

Make new shit. Tell complete stories. Stop assigning homework!

Anecdata (and I'm being intentionally a little vague): some of my old European contacts seem to have shifted their language from "US" to "North American" when talking about transatlantic partnerships

But yeah if you're travelling with your partner or family on vacation, lower the stress and get there early. Completely different contingencies.

I also got good at scheduling my flight home for early afternoon on Friday, spending the morning in the hotel catching up on email, etc., until checkout, then going to the airport at the last minute.

If I did that right it was bourbon and movies all the way back, and a full weekend at home.

When this was a regular feature of my working life I would often take a ~6pm flight out of RDU, which enabled me to put a full day in (until ~4:30) at my office in downtown Durham, first, for example.

I think where you fall on airport arrival discourse likely has a lot to do if you are travelling for work or not. If you do that on the regular you absolutely want to minimize your time in transit. Squeezing the most out of every working hour can mean an extra day at home.
