It's the best little church!
There's some more history in this website if you're interested. The missionary era offers a peek into Hawai'i before the overthrow of the Kingdom. Not totally benign, of course, but not what was to come after with the children and grandchildren of the missionaries.

Purple velvet bags on the end of wood poles laid across a koa wood table. In the background are pews with red cushions. In the historic Wānanalua Congregational Church in Hāna, Maui. Established 1838, construction began 1842. Services each week in Hawaiian and English. Open and Affirming (in other words, we welcome GLBTQ visitors and members, and work toward social justice).
I've never seen a stoat glamour shot before! Nice!
"But Charlie [Gull], StarKist doesn't want [starfish] with good taste; they want [starfish] that taste good."
But I don't know how old you have to be to understand the reference. I'm old enough to know that's a great picture, too!
Thank you for saying that, SB. Sometimes a gift just falls into our lives out of nowhere and it's hard to imagine life without it! He's a treasure. And so amazing for a man turning 93 in two months. Not just physically but also how open and curious he is, how much he loves learning still.
First light at the bay with a large tree above picnic tables. Masu sits at one looking out to the bay. Hāna Bay, Maui, Hawai'i
Looking across the bay to houses and trees. Cook Pines, palms, mango, avocado. Naupaka covers the lava shoreline. The sky is cloudy with some orange morning light shining on them and a smudge of a rainbow.
Good morning from Hāna Bay for sunrise & smudgy morning rainbow.
First photo shows Masu waiting for me at the picnic table. Then we kick off our "slippers" and walk on the beach. Well, we walk until our conversation stops us in our tracks for a few minutes, then walk some more till next talk story.
Gotta go with “What a Wonderful World”. Looking back, not ahead.
Black and white of the coast with hills rising up and waves coming in.
On the #edge, California coast 2016 when my phone said, "Hello, Moto!" to me. Still took a lot of phone photos.

It’s slowly growing on me.
Several people stand at the edge of the old sugar cane pier fishing, surrounded by blue ocean and sky. Hāna, Maui, Hawai'i
Fishing from the #edge of the pier this morning at Hāna Bay.

Morning creeping in at Hāna Bay, Maui. The road to the pier is lit by soft street lamps reflected on the water and sand below the lava rock wall. The sky is full of blue clouds.
A poster for the 30th Annual East Maui Taro Festival at Hāna Ball Park. Historically all food should include taro (kalo) and all crafts and activities should have a link to taro. I think there's a bit more wiggle room now but the festival is amazing, and definitely a tribute to and education about the importance of kalo in this area and to the islands in general.
The #edge of morning today as we all prepare for the joy and excitement of Taro Fest!

Quote post with the best picture you've ever taken of your pet.
Don't know if it's the best but it makes me smile every time I see it. Maisie the dog and me.
Sunrise coming up over Hāna Bay.
An 'iwa, or great frigatebird, flies overhead. Seen through the power lines.
Morning walk. Hāna, Maui
I always am happy to greet the day with an 'iwa fly-by.
Happy birthday, Ray, and congratulations to you both!
That is fantastic.
Reminds me of working in the computer lab while I was a student at the University of Texas. Students would come in to hand stacks of punch cards in to be fed into a machine.
I looked up punch(ed) cards just now and read their fascinating history!

Highly recommend a visit.
The cost is insane, and yes, insane that dental, vision, and hearing care is somehow NOT health insurance. Maybe we should rename it "Whole Body Care" to make a point.
Early 50s. I love the bird song they give me, and when I occasionally don't have them in I realize how I would end up less engaged generally if I didn't have corrected hearing.
Would I CHOOSE to wear hearing aids? No, and not just due to expense. Like glasses, they solve a problem and do it well.
Both humans and pelicans are aware that the walleye are running
🌊🌊
Yes, it takes economic privilege (or good private health insurance) to afford hearing aids, and those are evil choices our elected officials keep making.
I also know people who can afford them who whispered to me when I got mine that they have uncorrected hearing loss because they're embarrassed.
Always makes me feel rich in a way our usually economy could never do.
A small brown leaf with yellow veining on the black sand of Hāna Bay.
A red spider hibiscus in all its glory among various green leaves.
A Pacific Giant Centipede on the asphalt. About 4 inches long.
Two pieces of wood rolled by the ocean waves sit on the sand, one tan and one black. Beside the black wood is a coconut washed up in the waves. The coconut and black wood (shaped roughly like a bat) is what first caught my eye, like they were reading for an impromptu ball game. But the light wood really drew me in to the whole composition for some reason.
Morning walk this morning. Some small lovely things.
Hāna, Maui.
A silvery ocean bay with sand in the foreground, hills and pier in the background. Sunrise is turning some of the clouds pink.
This morning Hāna Bay qualifies for #StunDay.
The sky and Pacific Ocean doing their thing.
View from the backyard to the Pacific Ocean past the green lawn with the cemetery and a small section of the banyan tree at the right. The palm trees are in the hotel between the lawn and the ocean.
Happy hour in camp chairs, sitting by the cemetery looking at the Pacific Ocean.
A political button on a brochure. The button says "The new right is the old wrong. NOW--NJ--Lesbian Rights Task Force" and the brochure says Women's Activism in the Briscoe Center's Collections".
Not exactly art but a sentiment about the #new right that keeps proving itself to be true. The same old ugliness. #BlueskyArtShow
On account of their name, am I right? 😉
I kept trying to remember who posted this soup! I made some last night and it was so perfect! Thanks for the prompt.

Rivers and lakes are flooding in Northern Michigan right now due to snow melt! From friendlier days to be on the water.

Oh, yum! And very pretty!
