Nine years ago I set a cursed die on a table at a convention and walked away.
40 minutes later, it was gone – vanished into the mists of legend.
I sometimes wonder what horrible fate befell whoever took it.

34 Years Ago: Treasures of the Savage Frontier was released.
This gold-box game had the players embark on a seemingly impossible mission: protect the ambassadors of the Lords' Alliance.

Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."
redstonedust on tumblr: "tragic when a thing gets hate for being 'woke trash' and you look into it and its not even that woke. like cmon man i was promised monocle popping gay commie propaganda. this is just a video game with a woman in it."

Walz: "I couldn't help but think, and it scares me a bit -- 'The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most important directive.' It certainly feels like that in this moment."
Gratz! Looking forward to seeing what you get up to at WotC 😊
back at work and my true calling: verifying my identity
I admit I've never watched any Stranger Things, which I'm sure some of my friends will guffaw at with how much I talk about 80s D&D.
But now it seems to have gone the way of GoT with a lazy ending, it doesn't inspire me to start now 😅 but maybe I can get the jist from season 1 when I get round to it
I must have thought "oooh a new ip sci-fi shooter with particle effects flying everywhere. How refreshing🙄" at least three times a year for a few years now.
Probably not worth spending too much time on the individuals themselves. There's lots of characters that represent this kind of spineless bootlicker, but we don't need to call out every nasty commenter. Having an NPC in a game would be a win in their books, no matter how bad it looked for them.
He’s surrounded by such wormy little losers at the White House that I think he was like wow a cool guy
That's my interpretation anyway, or as best as I can do with words right now. I could be missing something important or I'm reading too much into it, I dunno. I just really love the painting and it sparks my imagination whenever I see it!
Not to mention something I love about lots of Whelan's work: how the background fades into the distance. The faint cloudiness gives these paintings a great sense of scale. It reminds you of the sheer size of the world you can explore. Even the size of the shrine itself is also arresting, I think.
There is nothing hostile here, and it seems like it could be very relaxing. But I also think there could equally be a sense of unease. The POV is exactly how far away you can get before you're over some threshold, moving any closer means *something* will irrevocably change for better or worse.
But, if that's the case, what about the stepping stones at the bottom? They're clearly not built like the avatar itself, maybe just taken from the beach, or from the ruins of the shrine. Maybe someone is still here, revering what this place used to mean.
The fact there's no people here (apart from maybe the floating orbs...) adds to that idea of discovery. I sometimes think of it as a POV, *I* am a character in the painting, finding this place for the first time in countless centuries.
It's serene, and yet finding it fills your mind with questions: Who built it? What was it used for? Does it still work, or is the magic gone? How did such a civilisation fall and why was this abandoned afterwards? I start to rebuild this place and imagine what it was like when it was first made.
Today's Michael Whelan post is one of my favourites! For me The Avatar represents a lot of what I love about fantasy. It's one of those "I could write an essay on it" images. Whenever I see it, I think I'm discovering a long abandoned vestige of an ancient, mystical civilisation. Ramble incoming!
My bus was due and I had to cross a road to get there. A funny and unexpected side effect of this was some Mormons or JWs were approaching me and just as they were espousing the virtues of their god, I ran to the other side while the green man was flashing. Eat my incidental dust, proselytisers!

You know what we don't talk enough about?
80's homoerotic pro wrestling vignettes.
Designed to introduce new 'heartthrob' wrestlers to an area, and especially to appeal to female fans to attend the live shows, promoters would make these vignettes to sell them and well... Judge for yourself.

What if you could combine the bonus actions of two PCs to perform a shared super action? And we'd call it... the bro-nus action!
