Electric buses are successfully operating in N Europe, near the Arctic Circle, in Sweden & Norway, with enhanced thermal insulation and battery heating systems. While winter reduces battery range, proper infra planning & thermal management do allow for reliable operation, even in extreme conditions.

More than half of all new EU buses are electric. At this rate, Europe's 2035 target of 100% zero emission bus sales could be reached as early as 2028. www.linkedin.com/posts/gavinm...
It includes Hydro Power so that is how it is done.
Proposed UK Coire Glas pumped storage scheme is like a backup wind/solar generator: which will buy up all the excess wind/solar energy nobody was going to buy or use, and release that same wind/solar energy when it is needed, slowly, at 1.3 GWh per hour.

New study: most climate models underestimate the decline of the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC. The AMOC is on course to slow by more than 50% by the end of the century. 🌊
Very likely the AMOC will then be past the tipping point for full shutdown. 😨

A HUGE, narrative-breaking moment for the UK car market
New EVs are now cheaper than petrol cars on average, says Autotrader
Last yr CCC said price parity was due by 2028 – and it's already here
And EVs are already MUCH cheaper to run than petrol
For context, from .... 2017
"Electric cars are already cheaper to own and run than petrol or diesel cars in the UK, US and Japan, new research [based on 2015 data] shows"

In answer to the people who ask what we will do for energy when the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine, that's only 2% of days. If we have a 98% decarbonised power grid, we're doing pretty well. www.linkedin.com/posts/gavinm...
The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument DESI has completed its originally planned five-year mission and mapped more than 47 million galaxies and quasars, creating the largest high-resolution 3D map of our universe to date.

India's solar module manufacturing capacity is on track to surpass 125 GW by 2025, more than triple the domestic market demand of around 40 GW. The manufacturing growth will lead to a substantial inventory buildup of 29 GW by the third quarter of 2025.

India has begun deploying grid-scale energy storage. Recent commissioning of 20 MW/40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in New Delhi (2025) & 40 MW facility co-located with solar plant in Chhattisgarh. With only 219 MWh commissioned late 2025, there is pipeline of storage tenders of 38 GWh.
Uruguay did what most nations still call impossible: it built a power grid that runs almost entirely on renewables—at half the cost of fossil fuels. www.forbes.com/sites/kensil...
With this and China just announcing a 2,500km solar-power high speed train it’s putting the US to shame.
With 150GW solar, India achieved its target of having 50% of its total installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources in June 2025, reaching this milestone 5 years ahead of its original 2030 deadline set under the Paris Agreement www.pv-magazine.com/2026/04/10/i...

Thanks Bruce.
I agree. We can just look at risk and calculate outcome probabilities. This one has some serious potential impacts so even low risks are a worry for me.
🙂

The models use data from North Atlantic and Southern Ocean temperatures and salinity and they do seem to show a slowing trend overall.
Dr. Stephen Rahmstorf, one of the world's foremost authorities on AMOC, explains the danger:

Big worry. There is this very coherent picture of deep western Atlantic overturning weakening for all different kinds of latitudes in the AMOC system consistent with slowing models. www.newscientist.com/article/2522...
