Watched the crows run off a bald eagle from my yard this morning, but then could still VERY clearly hear a bald eagle afterwards, so I spent about 10 minutes with the binoculars looking for it

Which is how I found out the mockingbirds in my yard like to imitate bald eagles

Last day of work on the stays for about a week until the silk I’ve ordered for the binding comes in 😈

today I backstitched along the top and bottom edges, then turned my seam allowance & whipped it down to prep for binding. Just a lil sneak preview rn but I’m so thrilled with the fit I’ve achieved!

Interestingly, according to contemporary documents like 1747’s “A General Description of All Trades” (T. Waller), 18th century staymakers were almost always men, due to the sheer physicality of the process.

I can confirm it is extremely physically demanding, I am WHOOPED y’all

Today I also whipstitched in an extra piece of ultra-heavy canvas to the lower front, to help prevent the bottom front tab from bending outward under the pressure of being laced.

Extant examples of 18c structural garments show this done with buckram, canvas, paper, even playing cards!
