Following on from my post about my husband rescuing toads from under a grate.

So many wild creatures perish from dropping into drains & cattle grids, but I learned from @thenorfolkcoast.bsky.social that councils can install wildlife gully ladders.

so many respirators on olympians faces; just because you’re not a professional athlete doesn’t mean that you n those around you don’t have something worth protecting too.

Donald Trump’s agents are untrained, unqualified, unprofessional, and dangerous.

It’s time for them to stop their assault on American cities.

Whatever you might think of Maduro, the seizure and kidnapping of a head of state takes us to a very dark place. Vast, arbitrary, extra-legal power, which could be exercised almost anywhere, regardless of the character of the target government.

For decades, the “Guga hunt”, on Sula Sgeir has been defended as sustainable, harmless, and woven into cultural heritage. But the science emerging today tells a very different story.

The PCR positivity map is out, and UKHSA is reporting another drop to 3.3% in England.

Taking into account all the areas that aren't reporting, we make that 4.38%.

That's more in line with 4.19% in Scotland (where there's much more reliable reporting).

Here's the latest variant picture for Australia, to late August.

NB.1.8.1 "Nimbus" has continued to dominate, but fell back to finish at 47%.

It looks under threat from the rebound in JN.1.* +DeFLuQE, which grew to 32%.

The PCR positivity map is out, and many areas are seeing an ever so slight decrease.

But Devon, London, and many areas north of Birmingham are seeing stubbornly high levels or rebounds.

A screenshot of a quote by famous Indigenous Activist Leonard Peltier. It’s black writing over a worn aged brown background with an old native drawing in the bottom right corner.
The quote text says:
‘I don’t know how to save the world. I don’t have the answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. I only know that without compassion and respect for all earths inhabitants, non of us will survive. Nor will we deserve to.’

BBC Bosses Draw Up Plans to Win Over Reform Voters by Changing News and Drama Output The Director General Tim Davie and other executives discussed altering BBC “story selection” in order to secure the "trust" of supporters of Nigel Farage’s party

When did you ever hear the BBC stating that it must alter “story selection” and “other types of output, such as drama”, to win the trust of Green voters, or of unrepresented people on the left?
All the shifts are in just one direction.

You wouldn't blow tobacco smoke in the faces of people with cancer. But if you don't take precautions to avoid people with cancer catching Covid, that's what you're doing.

An absolute masterclass in how the UK media platforms and normalises far right politics. This is how Farage wins.

1. Infuriatingly, here in the UK, the government still seems to believe that the only way of introducing trees is to plant them (see, for example, the current Land Use Framework consultation).
News just in: trees can self-seed, which could be why they've survived for 360m years. đŸ§”

Benefit cuts will push more people into poverty, warns Citizens Advice boss Exclusive: Clare Moriarty hits out at Labour’s plan as ‘short-term action’ with ‘long-term consequences’ in rare intervention

Cutting benefits for disabled people will push more people into poverty and make it harder for them to get into work.

Inflicting misery is a political choice, not an economic necessity.

No govt proposal is accompanied by assessment of human cost.

Insist on meeting your MP to vent your concerns.

Expanding aviation is massively inadvisable! Current predictions are that by 2040 it will be 27% of all our UK emissions. Where's the sense in that?
Flying is a luxury, not a human right.

Putting in mitigations to protect staff and patients from airborne diseases like Covid and flu is imperative. Hepa filters and far UV should be standard in hospitals, as they are in Govt and military buildings in the U.K. Prevention is better than cure - or no cure, if you develop Long Covid.
