Hot take
Mike Elias, if you wanna be cheap, then sign Adolis Garcia.
Non-tendered with THAT average exit velo is diabolical and I want you to make the Rangers feel bad for it.

I would love to see this looked into with more depth, but I wanted to share!
Thanks for reading,

The higher an EOBD, the more adept they were at getting on base via their eye.
It's an early concept but I think the application of this can separate players in an interesting way.
If a player's career OBD is high enough, a change in hitting philosophy could result in production skyrocketing!
Furthermore, I propose another stat, Earned On-Base Differential (EOBD)
In a similar way to how OPS adds OBP and SLG, EOBD would be a function of:
EOBD = EOBP - AVG
For example again, Aaron Judge's EOBD:
EOBD = .424 - .331
EOBD = .093
The whole point is to show a player's raw ability to draw walks.
The basic function would be something like:
EOBP = H + BB - IBB / AB + BB - IBB
For example: Aaron Judge's EOBP last year:
EOBP = 179 + 124 - 36 / 541 + 124 - 36
EOBP = .424
EOBP would take the function of OBP and take away any factors outside of a hitter's control.
Intentional walks would be subtracted from the player's walk total because they had no part in actually drawing the walk
Sac-flies are outs, and will be treated as such
HBP is under a pitcher's control
An open letter to Baseball
Why on earth do pitchers have a stat that removes elements out of their control like ERA in relation to RA/9, but hitters don't have something similar for OBP?
I propose a new stat, simply referred to as Earned On-Base Percentage (EOBP)
Okay I'm actually gonna start using this as a proper account now. Still gonna get Baseball and Mets memes, just you're gonna have to deal with me being insufferable as a whole too.

fun fact: if Juan Soto had the same differential between BA and OBP with his Expected BA and Expected Slugging %, he'd be slashing:
.299/.431/.590
OPS of 1.021
Despite the fact he's gotten supremely unlucky, his OPS is .800 anyways :3
love the casual gum chew too lmaoo
I can't believe Canning got Ohtani to trigger the bailout animation in MLB The Show and caught him looking πππ
