Text from NY Times article: It was not immediately clear what had caused the accident, but the police said that Ms. Yarimi had a suspended license. The authorities said they were also investigating whether the speed of the vehicles had played a role in the collision, and whether Ms. Yarimi had run a red light or been drunk at the time.

it's makes me think of the part in @jessiesinger.bsky.social's There Are No Accidents that highlights the differences in how safety is perceived by men and women, that women more accurately perceive their safety than men. And that becomes a problem when the systems are designed primarily by men.

Racist Monuments In Bay Ridge • Radio Free Bay Ridge In this episode, we deeply examine all the reasons why we should finally tear down our remaining Confederate monuments in Bay Ridge.

As Donald Trump attempts to rebuild racist monuments throughout the country, let's look back at the racist monuments Bay Ridge residents have successfully exorcised... And learn how these "historic" sites were faked by racist assholes in the 1900s and 1950s.

A terrific thread from @jessiesinger.bsky.social about VA's new law. Important model for other states -- and demonstrates the power of working on state legislation. Give her VERY short thread a read!

Four, this recognizes speeding as a danger equivalent to drunk driving and employs a solution as effective as breathalyzer interlocks.

Three, this limits interactions with police. As NHTSA’s William Haddon once said: “We’ve all been miseducated that the way to solve this problem is more squads of police chasing Americans so that they wouldn’t drive 120 mph, rather than arranging cars so they can’t go that fast.”
