Your TV knows you're a trader. You didn't tell it. Every click, pause, and channel change is a transaction on a tape you didn't know existed. You're not reading the tape anymore. The tape is reading you. New on Reading the Tape: The Traded Self.

My new Substack continues growing! Today, at Reading the Tape, I tackle the non-enigmatic question of why Trump has so badly fucked up the U.S. — and now world — security and economy.
Short answer: he was born to it.
Longer answer: Click the link.

A new milestone has been reached over at my personal Substack: Reading the Tape.
Check it out! Look at an article or two (or three)!
Subscribe or Like. I respond to every comment and I don't know why, but I really love the support of people giving the thumbs up! ;)

Someone else noted on Facebook: for the first time in history, you can just post the words "He's an idiot" and the whole world will know who you're talking about.
Yesterday, I wrote about the TACO trade.
Today, CNBC used "The TACO Trade" in a headline.
So today, I wrote a short and (hopefully) funny post about that with some really cool images.
If you like it, please share it.

Trump just said the quiet part out loud: ICE agents don’t need to wear masks to do their job, so he’s asking them not to mask at airports. Instead, he wants them to limit masking to terrorizing immigrant communities. This is why I passed California’s law banning this terror tactic.
Castle Rock v. Gonzales is one of those true litmus tests: if a person can hear about it and not be filled with overwhelming rage at the criminal justice system and the carceral state, their judgment is not to be trusted, period.
Woo-hoo! My second article on my new Substack.
Don't worry. I'll get back to writing for the Probable Cause Substack soon. But I wanted to get this one out before the news is stale.

Today the Supreme Court will hear a case that will significantly impact the future of asylum: determining whether or not the government can turn away asylum seekers before they get onto U.S. soil.
Proud to have played a small role in this case at @immcouncil.org when I was still a staff attorney!
I know how to fix things: I'll buy oil stock. The stock will go down and the rest of the market can then maybe recover. 7:23 AM The Rick Horowitz Inverse Indicator. Buy oil, oil drops, everything else recovers. You'd be doing a public service. Yep. 7:24 AM Sacrifice play. Very noble.
Whilst reading the tape this morning, I had an short conversation with Claude.
In other news, I've started a new Substack called Reading the Tape. It's not jus about markets, but about recognizing patterns in life.

I've posted some things to my Substack lately that I might not have put here. But today I've also posted two videos to my YouTube channel. Here's the one I liked the best. One criminal defense lawyer I know like it and the other said, "I wouldn't show that to potential clients." youtu.be/dfWPyeoYKpw
Finally posted the last of a four-part series that I'd been working on since around the start of January, I think. This last part took the longest to complete, but here it is.
Get it while it's hot!

I don’t think anyone acquainted with the Epstein files can deny that the Republican Party is sincerely committed to putting children to work.
“Many have said civic virtue and sacrifice for the common good are dead. Those commentators have been proven wrong. The people of Minnesota and across the nation have rallied in opposition to “the harbingers of reappearing tyranny and oppression.”

So eloquent. Everyone needs to watch this entire speech by this young woman who ICE attempted to assassinate with the blessing of our current administration. youtu.be/qUV9AiMfrs0?...
Crucial from @brianbeutler.bsky.social: Anyone selling warehouses to ICE for camps should prepare for video leaking of "people inside being tortured." They'll have to answer for atrocities "in their communities."
On the pod we went big on Trump's new vulnerabilities:

He cannot be clearer. There is no difference to him between bombing random fishermen on boats and shooting Americans protesters in the face
California chose treatment over punishment.
Courts are still saying no.
Mental Health Diversion is being denied for reasons the law doesn’t permit — and appellate courts keep reversing it.

Courts don’t discover truth at leisure.
They price risk under pressure.
Why market metaphors keep explaining criminal defense better than legal rhetoric does:

Shameful, nonsensical whataboutism from a guy who’s supposed to be a serious establishment Republican.
That, I believe, is part of the point for him.
A white refrigerator door covered with colorful plastic magnetic letters arranged to read, “PBS didn’t become woke. You grew up to be a bad person.” Loose magnetic letters are scattered along the bottom edge of the fridge.
So vicious it's delicious.
Stories compress uncertainty. Evidence resists it.
Why courts and markets fail the same way — and why interruption matters more than explanation.

Friday, for the first time in my career, a client's family member said, "You're just like the Lincoln Lawyer". At the _end_ of the day, I got a text from a friend who lives in Texas saying that her husband called me Mickey Haller, the Lincoln Lawyer.
