Yes they face elections but once you have the backing of the party and the money that goes with it, you’re often pretty safe.
I really do not understand the argument against term limits. Being a Congressperson or Senator should not be a lifetime job.
Re: Gerrymandering. Look I’m not in favor of gun fights but I also know it’s best not to bring a knife to one.

I avoid wondering what Tolkien would think of things since he is long dead and a man of a very different country, age, and politics. But I feel quite certain he’d be horrified by this company naming itself after his creation.

CIA AGENT: Again. Do another.

Plus we’re all very aware now of how easily the whole house of cards can collapse as it did in 2008.
Yeah the wonks talking about how the economy is “good actually” miss how precarious life feels. Even with insurance many people are one bad medical bill away from ruin.
I’m struggling to find an appropriate way to express my contempt for these kinds of ridiculous appeals to a highly subjective Arcadian vision of society as it was perceived to exist around the time that the person speaking was twelve years old and I really wish people would stop doing this
For sale: Baby shoes; Never worn. Not sure why I bought them. They’re way too small for my feet.
I’m an English Teacher. It’s my job to demoralize them.
Prom is Saturday so I showed my students my prom picture from 1999. They all asked, “Is that your wife?” about my prom date. I had to break it to them that almost none of them will end up marrying their prom dates.

Well well well look who wished on a monkey’s paw for their degree to be “useful.”
We already had a plague. We’ve got a Holy War in the Middle East going on. Let’s do it. Let’s go full 14th Century.
I hope we get another Avignon. Make JD the Antipope. ‘Bout time we revived the concept. Except this time we put it in Omaha.
Personally I would be disturbed if I found a woman named Susan in my garden, regardless of eye color.
There's a personality tic that has really intensified over the past decade that is like...fear of missing out on Optimizing. Enjoying an experience but worrying that there's some criterion on which it could be Better, and the way to improve it is not to talk to people but to turn to tech.
It's bad.
She was granted withholding of removal from India *decades* ago, and had been living and working legally (including for the U.S. government!) ever since.
But with third country removals now a real option, TSA shared her data with ICE and they arrested her at the airport on her way to a job.
As a Protestant, it pains me to side with the Pope over a secular politician beefing with the Pope, but here we are. I guess I’m a Guelf now.
