How wonderful to welcome Sir Ed Davey to Upton Heath yesterday to celebrate the power of community.
Alongside Dorset Wildlife Trust, it was the community that came together to secure the section of Upton Heath that was up for sale and ensure that it is protected for future generations.

Ever fancied carving your own wooden spoon? 🌿🪵
Join expert greenwood worker Adam Hawker on 11 April and learn how to craft your own using traditional techniques - right in the heart of nature.
A brilliant way to get hands-on, and try something completely different.
Book your place:
Currently at Trinity Waters, Somerset. So good to hear singing Willow warblers! Plenty of sand martins overhead and the occasional swallow passing through.
Ah yes, when it didn’t matter if you didn’t know the number of the person you wanted to speak to - you could just work it! Weird how I still remember a few of them!
Territorial Robins seem to object to pretty much any birds!
Early frogspawn is starting to appear! 🐸
Keep an eye out for the jelly-like blobs in shady pond edges and shallow water - and let us know if you spot any! 💧👀 ~ Jack

An outstanding Captain, an outstanding leader.
Simon and Kirsty going well on their epic trek!
Morning dog walk, brightened by seeing the welcome return of the local wasp spiders. @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social
Enjoyed a coffee in the garden earlier, and spotted this beauty of a jersey tiger having a rest. Great markings, and incredibly orange underwings when seen in flight. Dorset @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @dorsetbutterflies.bsky.social
Spotted when I moved the bins, relocated to a far more suitable place. A welcome visitor to the garden. @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social #toad
What?!! I feel I need to apologise to the RSPB for skewing the data in the garden bird watch - I’ve clearly been misidentifying starlings for years!
Jersey tiger season is here. One of two in the garden today. #Dorset

One female and NINE male stag beetles flying around the garden. What an amazing experience!
Stag beetle, rescued from the attention of the local magpies. 3 others not so fortunate, just the heads remaining.
Magpies are not one of my favoured birds in the garden. They’ve moved on from terrorising the great tit youngsters, now settling for tucking into stag beetles. RIP Mr Stag
