NEW - #Kamloops council has approved a second 20-month extension for the Pathways shelter on the North Shore.
This final temporary use permit will expire March 2028. The previous 20-month permit approved Nov. 2024 will expire in July.
In both cases, the ask was for a three year permit.

NEW - A portion of a planned 17 hectare prescribed burn in the Peterson Creek Nature Park in #Kamloops could begin on March 2, if conditions allow.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, work this spring will only cover six hectares.

The City of #Kamloops says funding for the nationally coordinated count came via a federal government grant.
It notes the federal government now requiries Reaching Home-funded communities to complete a homeless count every year and a full demographic survey every three years.
The results of the 2025 Point-in-Time count will be going before Tuesday's city council meeting.
Conducted over a 24-hour period on Oct. 15 and 16, it shows 419 people experiencing homelessness in #Kamloops, up from 313 found during the 2024 count.

During the trial, Bagabuyo admitted to killing Abdullah at his Victoria street office, but his lawyer argued it was manslaughter, as he did so out of fear.
However, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker ruled she has no doubt the murder was "planned and deliberate."

Former #Kamloops lawyer Rogelio “Butch” Bagabuyo (pictured on the left) has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2022 death of TRU lecturer Mohd Abdullah.
A first-degree murder conviction comes with an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.
I'm told the City of #Kamloops, through Kelowna-based Okanagan Affordable Rentals, plan to offer these rentals for the rest of this season.
The plan next year is to issue a bid for these services and choose a provider from among the applicants.
