Remember. As we head into the new year, you can always stop playing league of legends and play nine sols or in stars and time instead.

sam altman is just a sales guy with one goal: getting obscenely rich in silicon valley. his big thing previously was an app where you can find your friends on a map and after he sold it it turned out to have 500 users. he's not a stemlord he's just a run of the mill song and dance flim flam man

And actually--Comet Pizza was a page out of a playbook that started with daycare decades before.

In 1983, a California mom accused her son's childcare provider of subjecting children to Satanic rituals--like flushing them down toilets into secret basements where they were then filmed for porn. 1/🧵

If you are new to following, every two years I become possessed by the spirit of voting rights and with @totallydonna.kitrocha.com and @courtneymilan.com and a team of volunteers with all the ADHD and none of the self-control, we raise money for voting rights orgs.

We hit $1 million total in 2024!

It doesn’t fix things, but it really does bring me comfort to know how miserable some of the worst people are. Donald Trump tweeting over 200 times on Christmas. Billionaires fighting with strangers online during the holidays. Everything about Elon Musk

controversial opinion but i honestly think this "transitioning to male means joining the oppressor" guilt tripping is just "you're not trans, you're a self-hating woman" changed to sound less obvious

The FBI Faked an Entire Field of Forensic Science For more stories like this, like Slate on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.

Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

They admitted it.

My heart froze when I read 'CDPR sells GOG'. Thankfully it's actually good news. It's now just independent and self-owned.

There’s no pitch for genAI in the classroom that doesn’t boil down to ā€œit’s everywhere,ā€ or that takes education as more than job training, or, consequently, that actually argues for genAI as a tool that has a distinct function in education.

It’s not educators who have their heads in the sand here.

The noble Bus is a mode of transportation befitting the descendants of hunter-gatherers. Bus is a sort of urban beast that must be tracked, pursued, and taken, by force if necessary. It brooks no cowardice; by its own fortitude it engenders nobility in its hunters. Driving is faster, granted— but cold, solipsistic, enervating of body and spirit. The car is an apparatus of regression; the driver cocooned in womb-like solitude meets no hardship, no test of his mettle, and reacts to all discomfiture with the dyspeptic grumbling of an opium-eater prodded from his stupor. To travel and arrive by Bus requires resourcefulness, grit, alacrity, patience, and guile. The Bus-rider laughs at adversity and looks upon his fellow-passengers as brothers. What though the road construction waylay him? What though the rain wet his shoes? Shoes— pah! What cares he for such baubles? Not for him the base ignominy of "road-rage" hang on my stop's coming up I gotta finish this post

Nvidia has plowed plenty of money into the AI space, with more than 70 investments in AI companies just this year, according to PitchBook data. Among the billions it’s splashed out, there’s one important category: neoclouds, as exemplified by CoreWeave, the publicly traded, debt-laden company premised on the bet that we will continue building data centers forever. CoreWeave and its ilk have turned around and taken out debt to buy Nvidia chips to put in their data centers, putting up the chips themselves as loan collateral — and in the process effectively turning $1 in Nvidia investment into $5 in Nvidia purchases. This is great for Nvidia. I’m not convinced it’s great for anyone else.

lots of fiction waxes poetic about the eternal folly and foolishness of the human race but I'm pretty sure it's just the financiers and businesspeople and investors who are fucking stupid
