Posts by Marcus Hansson - Game Writer │ Looking for Work

Before the page loaded fully it displayed "no open positions" and I burst out laughing, thinking it was some sort of evil commentary on the industry right now.

Anyway, then the page loaded and I got to be sad for real cause no writing positions :< (thrilled about the announcement though!)

As a grown-ass man, when I look at the time and it's 13:37, I still whisper to myself, "The planets have aligned. This is your moment."

I lived in Scotland for four years and always felt I'd return some day. Now I've had to exclude the UK from my job search because while my profession happens to qualify for a visa, my wife's no longer does, as of this summer. It just sucks.

Got it confirmed I'm part of the mass layoffs at Funcom, so if you come across any writing roles, slam them into my face please, thank you.

Ha. I reviewed Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire in 2018, and the first sentence is: "cRPGs are niche". The world's in a deplorable state, but at least we fixed that, eh?

I downloaded some mods and now I'm good.

Silksong's lovely and all, but yeah, no. I sat on a bench that killed me with an axe. If I reached a bonfire in Dark Souls by the skin of my teeth and it just exploded and killed me, I'd quit that too.

To be clear - I hate genAI. Even limited to "simpler" tasks it removes an incredibly important space from humans.

My point is more about how talking about quality misses the point in the long term. Even if it becomes indistinguishable, I want art to have humanity.

I get frustrated seeing arguments against generative AI being that it's not "good" when we're already at the lowest requirement for mass consumption.

To me the question is why would we want endless "good" AI art? I value art due to the implicit assumption that it's the result of a human process.

Did a cool trick with a Babybell and no one saw it. I am the cheesebender in the shadows.

Magazine Amazing stories by upcoming talent. No query letters. Guaranteed acceptance/rejection timeline. Above-professional pay.

Some of my latest stuff is on elegantliterature.com/magazine/ for free:
"The Chair of Solitude" - Elegant Literature #034 (contest winner)

"Just a Bunch of Cheap Meat and Probably Mustard Seed" - Elegant Literature #033

They're uuuh, pretty different, in case the titles didn't give that away.

I first heard Paranoid in Rock n' Roll Racing when I was 6. Years later, hearing the actual song - recognizing it, Ozzy's voice coming in - it blew my mind. Heard it just now again, sung by a 76-year old Ozzy at the farewell gig.

Still blows my fucking mind.

Not too bothered by ageing in a general sense, but it hits different when the conversation with the doc goes:
"My foot hurts. It turned purple."
"Oh yeah, look at that."
"So what do I do?"
"No, it just does that now.
*pokes at purple bruising*
"Yep, yep."

Yep. It's really long though. The main series is ten books and theres a prequel trilogy and a sequel trilogy in the works.

Malazan! I freaking love it. The magic, the cultures, the pantheons, and how they change and transform over millennia. Just as Tolkien being a linguist shone through in his worldbuilding, Erikson being an archaeologist does the same in Malazan.

Yeah, we will weather the Portuguese blizzards and hike steep cliffs with prowling lions. Or maybe I'll be playing stardew valley in the backseat of a car. The road is pretty windy though!

Food: chili
Season: winter
Drink: julmust
Colour: uh, purple?
Anime: I'll go with Princess Mononoke. Oh and for a series, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Broke my brain.

Sometimes I like to spend 15 uncomfortable minutes on a plane successfully convincing myself I've forgotten to raise my mental age and am therefore a year older than I thought I was, then realizing nah, haha, haha, nah.

Heya, I'd also like to be added, thanks. :)
